Please help! Grin

Looking for recommendations for cosiest, warmest, but also thickest - those deep, cloud-like ones you get in luxury hotels (although preferably with a slightly reduced price tag) - duvet to keep me warm on these icy mornings.. 🥶 where's best??

Also looking to replace my old summer one with something similarly 'cloudy' but lower tog, if possible! Basically just best duvet manufacturers?! I'm in UK if it makes a difference (although feeling like the Arctic, currently).

Thanks!

I love my wool duvet, baavet brand. It's lovely and warm, but not thick and puffy like a down duvet so probably not what you are looking for. Worth looking at though.

MaryIsA · 09/02/2021 06:44

Soak and sleep wool duvet, clips together. V toasty, but also cool in summer. Great if you overheat or are menopausal.

DonLewis · 09/02/2021 06:45

I like my duvet to have a cotton cover. And to be as warm as possible. We have discovered the Lancashire Textiles duvets. Cotton covers, cloud like and you can get warmer than a 15 tog! (I share a bed with my dh. He hates a warm duvet, so I actually bought a his and hers, my side warmer than his, but I also bought my teenage ds one, but a full 16.5 tog). I'd really recommend them.

I’ve got a lovely duvet. Got it from John Lewis. Think it was Siberian feather or something like that. Like sleeping under a cloud, totally lovely. Think it cost over £250 about 5 years ago though so wasn’t cheap. Coupled with their fancy feather mattress topper, I’m lying in a cloud every night 👍🏻

BikeRunSki · 09/02/2021 06:50

Another vote for Baavet

NothingIsGoing2GetBetterItsNot · 09/02/2021 06:53

donLewis there's so many different types!! Which one?!

Also, do the feather ones stay cloud-like or go flat?? I'm sure our duvet was relatively fluffy once upon a time but is now definitely pancake-like...

£250 is a bit steep!! 😲

Get an electric blanket... I swear to god they are the best thing ever. Before you say how unsafe you think they are they are even washable now. I couldn't live with out mine.

HeronLanyon · 09/02/2021 07:00

Duvets covers also make a huge difference depending on weight and weave etc. I have one cover which is thicker but so thick it prevents the duvet snuggling/draping cozily. Another which is so light it doesn’t add warmth. I have a few which are perfect fir v cold - mid thickness warmth and drapery. Makes massive difference.

MonicaGellerBing · 09/02/2021 07:01

I have a 15 tog goose feather duvet from Argos. Had it a few years and hasn't gone flat it is absolutely gorgeous, so warm and cosy I love it.

PeppaPigMakesMeGrrrrr · 09/02/2021 07:04

I've got a wool one. Love it. Not fluffy and puffy but so warm and heavy.

ThenCatoJumpedOut · 09/02/2021 07:04

It has to be at least 80-90% down filling

Nothing else compares

Spaceman1 · 09/02/2021 07:06

@UnusuallyUsual do you keep your electric blanket on all night or just before your go to bed?

MaryIsA · 09/02/2021 07:09

I wouldn’t say wool ones are fluffy, but they sort of mould to you and are light feeling. Had a feather one but turns out I’m very allergic to down.

zzizzer · 09/02/2021 07:11

Layers: I have a really really soft luxury fleece, then another cheaper one, then a normal cheap duvet.

Makes it feel quite heavy and drapey but is so soft and lovely and warm.

Aelfrid · 09/02/2021 07:12

I pull a blanket over the top of my (wool) duvet at the start of the night and it really speeds up the cosy feeling. We've also got a wool mattress topper under the fitted sheet. I should be getting out of bed right now but I don't want to.

DonLewis · 09/02/2021 07:13

I will try and find. A link, but I didn't spend £250, more like £40! I chose one with a cotton cover.

NothingIsGoing2GetBetterItsNot · 09/02/2021 07:15

unusually Definitely been thinking about getting one!! 😂 Had them at my grandma's house as a kid (we used to turn them off when we got in in those days) and Loved them... Think I'd not get out of bed 3 months of the year!

Ok so it's looking like for perfect puffiness and warmth it's a feather one... Interesting that Argos is a possibility (ours is doing click and collect) but loving the made in UK boast by Lancashire textiles! Will check out John Lewis as well!

Thanks don!

I thought about Layers but there's usually at least 3 of us in here (dog this thinks he's human) and I think they'd be all over the show (except on me!!)..

I got my daughter a cover less duvet from
Costco around Xmas time. It's amazing and was £24 for a single.

something2say · 09/02/2021 07:20

Hi there.

I'd recommend a winter / summer duvet. It's two that go together with poppers. I have my winter half in the loft and just bring it down in Oct or whatever. John Lewis. Had it over ten years. £90 iirc. More now, but worth it.

I'm also a blanket lover, with several really nice ones. My current fave is a baby pink one, sooo cuddly and soft.

Have fun!!

Itstheprinciple · 09/02/2021 07:22

Definitely electric blanket. Love mine!

Get a dual control one. DH has his on low all night. I prefer a quick top up if I wake up chilly. If you get one with a timer it goes off after a certain length of time so you can fall asleep with it on and not wake up in a pool of sweat!

creamcheeseandlox · 09/02/2021 07:24

Fogerty wool duvet.

lollipoprainbow · 09/02/2021 07:24

I recently got a £17 duvet from Tesco! It's gloriously cloud like although can be a little hot but perfect in this weather.

RoobyMyrtle · 09/02/2021 07:30

IKEA do excellent duvets. I'm currently lying under 2 and they are light but amazingly warm and cozy.
