Please help! Grin

Looking for recommendations for cosiest, warmest, but also thickest - those deep, cloud-like ones you get in luxury hotels (although preferably with a slightly reduced price tag) - duvet to keep me warm on these icy mornings.. 🥶 where's best??

Also looking to replace my old summer one with something similarly 'cloudy' but lower tog, if possible! Basically just best duvet manufacturers?! I'm in UK if it makes a difference (although feeling like the Arctic, currently).

Thanks!

Spaceman1... mine has an hour safety click off on it so it goes off when I'm asleep. It also has 3 heat settings.
When my daughter got her own place I brought her the upgraded version with a timer so she and I think 5 different heat settings.
You would need to shop around as mine has duel controls which I regret as I often forget to put the "other side" on
Sometimes when I work from home I sit on top of the bed with the blanket on... 😀😀

delilahbucket · 09/02/2021 07:31

We just got two duck and down from Mark's and Spencer's. A 4.5 tog and a 10.5 tog. We started with the 10.5 but switched to the 4.5 the second night because it was so warm. So here I am, under a 4.5 tog, toasty warm, and it's -2°c outside 😁

ememem84 · 09/02/2021 07:34

We have a king size bed and I’ve just “wintered it”. By this I make the bed like this:

Matress
Matress protector
Double duvet
Sheet (brushed cotton)
Duvet (10 tog hollow fibre I think)
Duvet cover (brushed cotton)
Wooly blanket.

Also Baavet if you want warmth with sweatiness. It drapes lovely And my summer one is over 8 years old and still looks and feels nearly brand new.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 09/02/2021 07:52

John Lewis duck down... still a huge fluffy cloud years later.
Also recommend John Lewis duck down for summer (4.5 tog)

MrsDThomas · 09/02/2021 08:50

I bought a 15 tog one from Asda during that beast from the east. It was lovely and soft but after 2 nights i put it in a bag and stored it. Way too hot!

Reastie · 09/02/2021 15:28

The does my fancy duvet and mattress protector lose puffiness, I’d say a little yes but still pretty fluffy several years later. I imagine you get longevity of puff from paying more Grin . I also regularly give it a flap to puff it up.

Not the exact one, but this is a lancashire textiles with a cotton cover @NothingIsGoing2GetBetterItsNot

Cocolapew · 09/02/2021 16:04

Get a teddy duvet cover, I have one and it's so cosy. You can get undersheets too.

BerniesMittens · 09/02/2021 16:09

Get a brushed cotton duvet cover, pillowcases and sheets. Your bed will be lovely and toasty.

funnyoldonion · 09/02/2021 16:10

I have an m and s 13.5 tog from there basic range and it is really cloud like, I was very impressed, couple with a Teddy duvet cover, it's very nice and snug!

@NannyR

I love my wool duvet, baavet brand. It's lovely and warm, but not thick and puffy like a down duvet so probably not what you are looking for. Worth looking at though.
I’ve got one of those and I love it.

Dh however has just announced that he doesn’t like it, he’s been having trouble sleeping, so we’ve gone back to a regular duvet.

I’m going to either divorce him or it’s separate beds until I persuade him that the Baavet can come back.

TreacleHart · 09/02/2021 16:42

We love our electric blanket. Well actually it's the same as a mattress protector, sits on the mattress and goes on like a fitted sheet .We switch it on 15 minutes before we go to bed on high , and turn it off once we get into bed. You can leave them on low overnight if you want to.

nordica · 09/02/2021 16:47

I got a "Supremely Washable" duvet from M&S last year. It's really thick but feels light (and easy to machine wash). Layering up makes all the difference though. I have a sherpa fleece blanket on top. And usually three cats, they are very, very good for generating extra warmth. Grin

@UnusuallyUsual

Get an electric blanket... I swear to god they are the best thing ever. Before you say how unsafe you think they are they are even washable now. I couldn't live with out mine.

We used to have an electric blanket, DS thought we were old fogies for having one when he was 12/13.
But then one evening I convinced him to get in our bed and see.... He "oooooooohed" and wouldn't get out 😂

RosesforMama · 09/02/2021 17:02

We also have a wool duvet, ours is from woolroom. We chose it because our previous down duvet ended up empty at the top with all the feathers round our feet despite the interior "quilts". The wool duvet isn't fluffy but the warmth is consistent across the duvet and it drapes well. I would say it takes a few minutes more to feel snuggly but the snuggle is consistent night after night.

YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie · 09/02/2021 17:05

New convert here to wool too. I’ve had super expensive down duvets which I love but dh just can’t tolerate them, and I was starting to suffer with night sweats. I have a wool mattress topper and duvet from Devon Duvets and it’s incredible. Only 8 tog if I remember rightly but on a par with our 13 tog down duvet for warmth. I don’t think I’ll go back now, I’m considering wool pillows too

Herbys · 09/02/2021 17:06

Expensive but M&S Hungarian Goose Down - all season so splits apart for summer. When there is the home event it is more reasonably priced... And will last for years and years! Think how much time you spend in bed and it becomes reasonable per night 😅

Also electric blanket is the best thing ever - if not already mentioned you can get 50/50 ones so you and your OH can be different temperatures!

KenAdams · 09/02/2021 17:14

Soak and Sleep - the goose down one I think

gettingfedupagain · 09/02/2021 17:16

Baavet from the bargain basket as they are expensive but amazing (I have two in different weights)

gettingfedupagain · 09/02/2021 17:17

@StanfordPines get two separate single duvets on your bed, that what they do in Germany

NothingIsGoing2GetBetterItsNot · 09/02/2021 17:20

Thanks everyone! I'm going to go down winter, wool summer, and an electric blanket! See you in the spring! Grin

I have a simba duvet. It is meant to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer.

You flip it depending on the season. It is also not bulky.

I think it works. It's the best one that I've had.
