Please help! Grin

Looking for recommendations for cosiest, warmest, but also thickest - those deep, cloud-like ones you get in luxury hotels (although preferably with a slightly reduced price tag) - duvet to keep me warm on these icy mornings.. 🥶 where's best??

Also looking to replace my old summer one with something similarly 'cloudy' but lower tog, if possible! Basically just best duvet manufacturers?! I'm in UK if it makes a difference (although feeling like the Arctic, currently).

Thanks!

Also recommend an electric blanket. There here is nothing like slipping into a preheated bed on a cold night. Heaven . I just pop mine on 15 mins before bed and it automatically switches off 60mins later ( usually warm, toasty and asleep by then!). My dh was initially against getting one as he said it was only for his parents age....he was soon converted! I also have Chronic pain ( mainly back, shoulder and neck) and I find the electric blanket really helps when having a flare up.

Another Baavet fan here, after following MN recommendations. I love it. Brushed cotton bed linen, and a throw on top when really cold.

Just make sure that you choose down that is ethically sourced as some is plucked from live birds and a by product of the cruel foi gras industry

www.homescapesonline.com/bedding/duvets/feather-duvets.html
We got an all seasons feather from here^ a few years ago.

I thinks it's a 4.5 tog and a 7.5 that you can popper together, so gives you 3 different options.
I got them to replace our old heavy synthetic after staying in a B&B and experiencing the lightness of a feather duvet.

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/02/2021 19:03

I have a brushed cotton duvet cover from JL and that makes the duvet see much warmer.

SadderThanEeyore · 09/02/2021 19:20

Brushed cotton bottom sheet, then the teddy covers is toasty.
Another good tip is to put your summer duvet on top of your mattress before you put the bottom sheet on. Winter duvet on the top 🙌🏻

Devon duvets: www.devonduvets.com/. We stayed in a holiday cottage a couple of years ago which had them. I ordered some just before Christmas and I have never slept better!

Horsemad · 09/02/2021 20:07

We've recently bought a wool duvet, it's brilliant. We're used to sleeping under a 4.5 tog so got a 300gsm (equivalent to a 4-7 tog).
I love it and would definitely buy another if anything happened to this one!

Horsemad · 09/02/2021 20:07

Ours is a Devon Duvet. 👍

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 09/02/2021 20:16

I have two stuck together... I bought a summer and a winter duvet and some big press studs. Hey presto - one fucking massive thick duvet!!!

timtam23 · 09/02/2021 20:19

I also have a Baavet wool duvet, I would really recommend them. It came from their bargain bin so it was very good value. It's a 3-season one. Brushed cotton sheets, and a hot water bottle with a cover, make the bed even warmer and cosier

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 09/02/2021 20:20

I don't recommend soak and sleep, both the duvets i bought from them went really flat some of the squares barely had any filling after a while, not cheap either.

Lisyloo725 · 09/02/2021 20:25

I got a 16 togger from Dunelm last Jan when our bedroom was getting down to 12oC during the night ⛄️
It is one of those ones that splits - I think it’s a 6 tog and a 10 than click together. Or some other numbers that add up to 16.
So great for summer too!!
It’s feather, though o don’t think it’s down. Fluffy tho. About £90 for super king.
Can you draughtproof?? That’s what we’ve done this year and it’s made a massive difference

I agree with those recommending an electric blanket. Mine is just a cheap underblanket from Asda but it ranks high on the list of things that are getting me through this year.

Getting into a gloriously toasty bed is pure luxury. Waking up and stretching with no fear of cold areas is wonderful. I used to laugh at my DM's obsession with her electric blanket, but now I'm fully on board.

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/02/2021 20:32

Where are people buying their brushed cotton bedlinen?

Dailyhandtowelwash · 09/02/2021 22:28

We’ve got some John Lewis and some Sainsburys. JL are smoother but Sainsburys is fine.

sproutsnbacon · 09/02/2021 22:36

Snuggle down of Norway down duvet, they cost a fortune but are fantastic. Although I’m currently using a £15 man made from Asda and it’s great. I darent use my expensive one postpartum as when I had DS I had the pp sweats and shrunk the duvet Shock

AdoraBell · 09/02/2021 22:47

Can’t remember where ours is from but I use a heavy duty bed spread when it’s this cold. Although I’m currently sleeping downstairs due to a broken toe. I think we bought the duvet for the spare room from Sainsbury’s.

cateycloggs · 09/02/2021 23:43

Another one who would reccomend a wool duvet. I got one for christmas 4 years ago from Wayfair about £70, a double which I have on a small double bed. I do find it heavy but I like that as I feel secure. I Also have flannellette bedding and nightwear and a double bedspread on top. Last summer I bought a memory foam topper and I thought it was a mistake at first as it is so firm and heavy but did not send back due to the cost. Once I got used to it I feel it does help me sleep better in one position and keeps my back warm. The only problem is getting up in the morning.

MaryIsA · 10/02/2021 07:32

Love my electric blanket. It’s dual control and you can have it on while you are in it for when you wake up cold.

ScrapThatThen · 10/02/2021 07:59

Stanford pines, a double duvet each is even better!

BettyCarver · 10/02/2021 08:13

Goose down duvet here - toasty in winter but light and cloudy so equally comfortable in warm weather. Check it’s goose down (not feather.) it won’t be the cheapest but there’s No need for separate winter and summer duvets which is a saving.

StanfordPines · 10/02/2021 22:31

I’ve moved him into the other bedroom.

Can anyone suggest a duvet for a heat -hater?
I ditched my 4.5 tog duvet as I was far too hot under it. I now have that between my memory foam (warm) mattress and sheet.
And a simple fleece throw over me.

Yes, a wool duvet! It was cool all summer. I don't know whether it could achieve a magic effect of warming one person but not another at the same time, but we have had the same duvet on all year and it's adapted.
