Shitting myself

So the last three times I've had sex I've been bleeding after. Red blood. I'm totally freaking out and can't make a doctors appointment til tomorrow morning.
Anybody had the same? what will happen?. Even the thought of it is making me shudder. I'm feeling stressed and queasy even thinking about it. I'm 41, ttc and periods have always been perfect. I'm up to date with smears. Last one was about 20 months ago. I'm absolutely shitting myself!

How heavy is the bleeding? It's quite likely to be a cervical ectropian or something like that which bleeds when irritated. Try not to panic and I hope you get a drs appointment to get checked out.

ClaraBean · 07/02/2021 13:53

It's not too heavy. Very red and lots on the tissue when wiping but not enough to need a pad. There is none on my underwear, but I wouldn't be brave enough to wear a white frock today!!
Thanks. I hope so too. I haven't been to the go since the pandemic so no idea how they are at appointments!

I had this when I had sex for the first time after my marriage ended - it’d been 2.5yrs and first time since second baby. It happened on and off with that partner for the duration of our 7m relationship. I think it was a mix of cervix bashing and cervical ectropion (confirmed by smear) - I did have a full STI screening which was clear. I’d always get stuff like this checked out though. Take care :)

CarriesFlower82 · 07/02/2021 15:09

I had this about ten years ago when I was on the pill. In the end I was told to come off the pill and it never happened again.

LalalaLa20 · 07/02/2021 15:10

Can you take a pregnancy test? I had bleeding during sex which had never happened before, however i found out the following week I was in early pregnancy so the bleeding must have been related. Just a thought

Mummysgonetobed · 07/02/2021 15:15

I had the same and it turned out to be a polyp on my cervix which was getting irritated during sex.
Had it removed about a year ago and nothing since.

Milliways · 07/02/2021 15:27

Check out your GP website and see if they do econsults. If you complete one today you should get a call or text with an appointment tomorrow, and saves the endless on hold trying to get through on a Monday morning.
I work in a surgery and staff are processing the weekend econsults from 8am and if an urgent appointment or call is needed it is allocated quickly.

OatcakeCravings · 07/02/2021 15:31

I had this recently, it was a polyp and I got it removed

Oysterbabe · 07/02/2021 15:33

I've had this in the past and they never really got to the bottom of it. It was nothing sinister though, they suspected a small tear somewhere.

Milomonster · 07/02/2021 15:35

Cervical ectropion needs to be ruled out. It isn’t dangerous - cells of cervix grow outside of it.

ClaraBean · 07/02/2021 15:49

Thanks. @OatcakeCravings - did it hurt having the polyp removed?
@Milomonster - how do they treat that? Does it just go away by itself?
@LalalaLa20 - did a pregnancy test last month and it was negative so doubt it will be positive now as I'm only cd 11 now.

Yes I’ve had the same. Happened lots and lots. Bright red blood, sometimes a lot like someone had been murdered and sometimes a little bit still noticeable. I had a cervical ectropion which was treated with silver nitrate (literally frozen off) took about five minutes. It’s not harmful so they gave me the option to not treat it but it was a huge inconvenience so I chose to treat it. They said it was very common in people who had been on the pill for a long amount of time. Even though I wasn’t on the pill at this time but had been in the past for a few years.

OatcakeCravings · 07/02/2021 15:59

Not painful at all, better than a smear I’d say.

Milomonster · 07/02/2021 16:03

@ClaraBean I think they freeze the cells. You may need to have a colposcopy.

GrannieD · 07/02/2021 17:17

I had this a few years ago. Turned out to be endometriosis. Had half of womb lasered and never returned x

Biglumpycustard · 10/02/2021 09:35

Morning ClaraBean, did you manage to get a doctors appointment.

Spied · 10/02/2021 09:43

I had post-coital bleeding. I'm early 40s and due to my age was sent for colposcopy under the 2ww.
The consultant said I had what looked like an ectropian which would be the cause of the bleeding but took a biopsy.
I was found to have Cin1 ( although the Cin wasn't the cause of the bleeding apparently as it has no symptoms).
