Can I send a man to collect my Tesco c&c (I have an obviously female name)?

My car has developed an engine fault and the book says to drive it slowly and carefully directly to a garage - so I don't want to risk taking the kids out in it to get the weekly Tesco c&c shop in case it breaks down. I can't physically go into the shop (4dc - single parent), and can't get a delivery slot at the last minute obv.

I think my only option is to ask someone else to collect it in my behalf. I know that they never ask me for ID when I collect, but I think the most likely candidate is male and my name is obviously female. Does any one know (from experience) if Tesco are likely to question if a bloke rocks up for my weekly shop? Would they accept if if they called me on my mobile number which they have logged on my account?

Yes it will be fine. Perhaps send the card it was paid for with and ID.

Frogartist · 07/02/2021 10:47

Yes that's fine.

OxanaVorontsova · 07/02/2021 10:48

H always gets ours but I book it no issues as long as he has the confirmation email

Clymene · 07/02/2021 10:52

Yes it's fine. My parents' neighbours have collected orders for them when they couldn't get a delivery slot

Clymene · 07/02/2021 10:52

So you don't need to give anyone your credit card!

ShowOfHands · 07/02/2021 10:53

They won't bat an eyelid.

ShalomToYouJackie · 07/02/2021 10:58

Why don't you ring the shop and tell them someone else is collecting on your behalf

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 07/02/2021 10:58

Ours is often placed by DH and collected by me, or the opposite. No one has ever bothered to check.

SpamIAm · 07/02/2021 11:02

DH has collected ours when I've ordered it. Didn't cross my mind it might be an issue (and it wasn't). Just make sure he's got the order number in case they ask for it.

Phew - was contemplating how to eke out food for a week with fussy dc... 😂

Same as others - we tend to order in my name, and DP collects. We have different surnames so not even obvious we’re together. They’ve never questioned it and he’s never needed to give any form of ID.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 07/02/2021 11:34

Same as EduCated. I forward the confirmation email to DH but he has never needed it.

PigletJohn · 07/02/2021 11:41

you can print off the order acknowledment and take that

Spudlet · 07/02/2021 11:46

Yes, our account is in DH’s name but I always collect. They just confirm the forename as well as surname with me. It’s never once been a problem.
