Hi, I discovered this week that I'm expecting, but I'm struggling to figure out what I'm actually allowed to eat. It seems everything I Google to check is linked to some birth defect or miscarriage risk. Help!

It changes all the bloody time! Best to avoid google and just look at the nhs website.

I haven’t changed my diet at all (except it has become more beige over the first tri due to nausea and food aversions). The only thing I am not eating is pate. Don’t look at American websites (although I’m assuming you’re in the UK here), as they have different food safety standards. What are you thinking you can’t eat?

As pps have said, follow the nhs advice. www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/keeping-well/foods-to-avoid/ very little you can't have!

Yet and stick to facts and science, OP. There’s very little you’re not advised to eat. Lots of things like tuna would have to be consumed in vast quantities before they were dangerous.

Nhs website is great for this (assuming your in the uk)

SpamIAm · 07/02/2021 09:49

Yes, look at the NHS website and only the NHS website. Advice from different countries isn't relevant, and I think you could find a(n unverified source) claiming you shouldn't eat literally every food.

I’ve been craving pineapple and eating it every day until my mother helpfully told me it could bring on a miscarriage Angry my midwife says that is ridiculous and there’s no scientific base for that at all, although there is a chemical in there apparently that COULD bring on labour- if you ate about 35 pineapples in a sitting.
