Sweet Jesus, sick of the Gas, bloating, headaches, acne the week before my period EVERY SODDING MONTH

Every month. Period is still seven days away but it’s already started in earnest. By evening I’m so bloated and uncomfortable, painful lower back, as gassy as a helium balloon, spotty, tension headaches every bloody day.

Then when it actually starts, I’ll get a migraine instead and the fecking period shits (JESUS CHRIST) along with the cramps, feeling vaguely queasy and like I haven’t slept for weeks.

I didn’t used to get it all so badly (still had it, just didn’t start over a week early) until I had DS and then it was like pregnancy had sent my hormones haywire and now they come out to play with a vengeance each month for just over half the month.

Sorry, just needed a rant because it all also makes me REALLY BLOODY IRRITABLE.

As you were.

Same. Seems to worsen the older I get. Migraine from absolute hell the day before and then again towards end of period, I eat anything in sight the day before, bloating, acute 1 day depression the day before, so hot I have nightmares every night in the week leading up to it. Have 1 child who is a teen now. Am actually contemplating the depo injection just to get rid of my period.

Between the two of you, you have described my symptoms perfectly. It's crap, isn't it? I'm 44 and have definitely noticed a of the symptoms have become worse over the past few years.

longwayoff · 07/02/2021 07:57

Vile. I recall this well. Can only suggest menopause- which is like the final bloody punishment for being a woman - but once that's over you're finally free. I also suggest not eating wheat for the week before your period which should help with some of the worst gastric stuff. Some people find low carb useful.

Rant away.

I get acne (I’m 44 ffs), migraines, hideously sore boobs and become ravenously hungry. Luckily I’ve found an effective migraine medication but the rest still haunt me every month. Because I get migraine auras I can’t even take the pill to skip periods like I used to Angry

TooSensibleOfMyDefects · 07/02/2021 08:09

All of this! Especially the acne which is so depressing. I tried the pill to help but it made it worse. I have horrendous depression and mood swings beforehand and I'm awful to live with, my poor DH and DC bear the brunt of it. Sad

I'm trying supplements now, this is my first month on them and I'm approaching my period. So far I think it seems better but at £30 a month for the supplements I may just be convincing myself that they are value for money!

God yes. I get so stressed now in the days before it’s like I’m losing my mind. I’m just on the shortest fuse imaginable. Plus the fact that my boobs hurt so much that it makes me want to cry if anyone brushes against them or anything, the bloating, the nausea.... it just fucking sucks.

floofycroissant · 07/02/2021 08:12

Yup. Mine used to be a breeze. Then my 30s arrived. Has anyone noticed it's worse since the pandemic too? I can't decide if it's related or I'm just noticing it more because there are little to no other daily distractions to take my mind of it.

Tatapie · 07/02/2021 08:24

I was the same. Grim. Last few years There were 1/2 days a month when I couldn't leave the house . Now at 48 I've started HRT, I feel so much better, energy to eat sensibly, no bloating , light bleed, no nausea, bliss. You may not be peri menopausal but the symptoms you describe got worse as my periods started becoming irregular. As soon as the hot flushes started I was in the phone to the dr! So there may be relief not too far off if you try HRT

Bobbybobbins · 07/02/2021 08:47

Mine's got worse too. I find evening primrose oil helps a bit.
