Looking for quick and honest responses on robot vacuum cleaners

I currently have a vileda which has just bitten the dust and wasn’t very good anyway.

Have seen elsewhere a discussion re robot cleaners, and a link to one of the Eufy ones which is on sale currently.

But before I buy one, I want to know whether it really is worth the money.

I know the appeal of having a robotic vacuum cleaner, but is it really all it’s cracked up to be? Or has anyone ever bought one and ended up stuffing it in a cupboard never again to see the light of day?

@AlternativePerspective

Well I bit the bullet and bought the eufy, and have to say I’m not impressed. I think that it’s kind of cool because it’s a gadget and you can tell it to go and do the vacuuming and then send it back to the charger etc but I have a Labrador and although I hoovered the whole carpet before I sent it round, it picks up barely anything, needs emptying about every too minutes as it has barely any capacity and then just does nothing. So I’ll be sending it back.
I would recommend the top of the range Roborock S6 Max V which is a mop as well as a hoover. I have had it about 8 months and would not now be without it.

We have a eufy s max since Black Friday. I love it, makes life much easier.

I expect when lockdown ends, I'll use the "big hoover" if we have people over, but for daily maintenance when it's just us, eufy does fine!

This is what I get every single day with my Roomba.

And that's only running it downstairs, the dog can't go upstairs so it's not needed daily up there.

I get similar, though I have decided that it's not just a dirty house, it's mostly carpet fibres that it is collecting as it's a 3 year old carpet and some of the places it goes haven't been hoovered very often with a normal hoover. That's my theory anyway!!

Chasingsquirrels · 14/02/2021 09:23

I think that about the carpet fibres Thimbleberries although my carpet is about 10 years old. I certainly get a different mix of waste in the dust box when it is on carpet compared to hard floors.
Hard floors is all dust, grit & dog hairs.
Carpet is the same plus fibres.
The roller brush is also full of fibres after a carpet run.
I haven't really thought about it when it goes upstairs, different carpet again but all 20 years old and mostly of a type less likely to shed fibres. I'll have to check that.

After 6 months of use my carpets are still there and don't look to be wearing away though 😆.

I have this one. It's the best money I ever spent. I set it off whilst I walk the dog and come back to a house that's presentable. I will definitely replace when the time comes.

Funnily enough I was thinking about this yesterday. Thanks for the thread OP, will have a read through the recommendations later.

I bought the Bagotte BG800 and agree with @phyzzy. It is good for daily use but prob not a full substitute. It takes ages to charge which is a bit annoying as it means you can’t do upstairs and downstairs back to back, or vacuum then mop. I’ve just bought the mop attachment and tried it out in the utility room and it seems pretty good for a quick once over. I’m not sure the battery will last long enough to do all of my downstairs.

Pleased with it though, feels like some actual useful technology for once!

SittinOnTheDockOfTheBay · 17/02/2021 21:32

I've just bought the Eufy on Amazon. Open plan dining / living. Kitchen plus hall and downstairs loo. Thinking I might let it do downstairs while I work upstairs during the day. Recharge it and let it do the upstairs in the evening when we are downstairs- I don't mind if it does one room per evening.

OnceUponARainbow · 19/02/2021 09:11

Also, I know this goes for a lot of the reviews on Amazon, but beware the 5 star reviews, they are incentivised. I had a card in both the vacuum and mop for a free gift (gift card for the vacuum, the mop attachment free when you review the mop🤨). Saying that I would genuinely give the Bagotte 5 stars having used for a few days.

I am so tempted! But before I purchase it, I have a couple of questions:
Can I just take it upstairs without its base? I am intending to plug the base downstairs and programme it to clean at night, but I would also like to take it upstairs in the morning. Would that work or does it need its base moved every time? And if I move the base does it needs some re-syncing/re-programming every time?

Most of them you can do exactly this with, the base is just a charging station. You do have to rescue it when it's finished, eufy's "head home" (wander around aimlessly on a lower power not doing any suction) when they drop to a certain power level. If they can't find the base they just continue until they completely run out of power.

Having said that mine can be downstairs (lounge, playroom, hall, dining room, kitchen & conservatory) and has never failed to find the base unless it gets stuck under something or in a room (manages to close a door once it's in there) so I'm quite happy with them aimlessness.

Toorapid · 19/02/2021 10:38

You don't need to move the base, you can just take him upstairs. Obviously he won't return to base when he gets tired out, you have to carry him and talk soothing to him while you do it

Chasingsquirrels · 19/02/2021 10:39

Finding the base seems to involve passing directly in front of it and picking up the signal. I don't know how far that would go as my layout only has about 1.5m in front of the base unit.

user1471523870 · 19/02/2021 10:44

Wonderful, thanks guys! I think I will get one after payday this month. Great suggestions here.

Thatwentbadly · 19/02/2021 11:19

@Toorapid mine is not as old but it’s very well used and I’m noticing the same.

Hi

I've been wanting a robot vacuum for ages but couldn't really justify spending the money and couldn't get DH on board. However I saw this on Amazon today and although it seems a really good deal, it's almost too good to be true. I was wondering if anyone has one who could let me know what they think of it?

Thanks in advance

Ronnie
