Looking for quick and honest responses on robot vacuum cleaners

I currently have a vileda which has just bitten the dust and wasn’t very good anyway.

Have seen elsewhere a discussion re robot cleaners, and a link to one of the Eufy ones which is on sale currently.

But before I buy one, I want to know whether it really is worth the money.

I know the appeal of having a robotic vacuum cleaner, but is it really all it’s cracked up to be? Or has anyone ever bought one and ended up stuffing it in a cupboard never again to see the light of day?

[quote TickleMyPickle]I have this one, absolutely love it.
It goes off every night via a timer on the app. Constantly amazed at the fluff and dirt it picks up every night( I have teen boys and a Labrador!)
When I can be arsed I take it up to one of the other floors and let it loose during the day when no ones home.
One of my best purchases ever.

Another vote for Eufy. We have this too and it's amazing for everyday cleaning. Missed couple of spots sometimes but overall does a very good job. Easy to clean too

@Seychelles98 our eufy does edges, I wouldn’t say they get right into the corners. There’s probably a cm or 2 that they can’t reach. But id just quickly do the corners with the big hoover when I’m doing stairs/sofas/skirtings. It’s pretty thorough and so nice coming down in the morning to miraculously hoovered floors.

compulsiveliar2019 · 08/02/2021 17:18

How do they do with pet hair/ mess? I've always assumed they would have such a small capacity? I have a shark upright and fill the collection thing most days. Would love a robotic one if it would actually be up to the job?

AlternativePerspective · 09/02/2021 12:43

Well I bit the bullet and bought the eufy, and have to say I’m not impressed. I think that it’s kind of cool because it’s a gadget and you can tell it to go and do the vacuuming and then send it back to the charger etc but I have a Labrador and although I hoovered the whole carpet before I sent it round, it picks up barely anything, needs emptying about every too minutes as it has barely any capacity and then just does nothing. So I’ll be sending it back.

I think a lot of people are amazed at how much it picks up despite preliminary hoovering, and yes, to start with the little tray fills up very quickly. But if you persevere for a few days, the amount of dust etc diminishes, then it keeps it down satisfactorily..

Whatpaint · 09/02/2021 13:32

@AlternativePerspective how disappointing! I have been watching this thread and trying to find an excuse to buy one but maybe they're not all they're cracked up to be Sad

PolarnOPirate · 09/02/2021 13:42

I agree with @TrickyD it can keep on top of it and not fill up when you get into the habit of setting him off every night or 2. But we don’t have pets.

Chasingsquirrels · 09/02/2021 13:48

I'm really surprised AlternativePerspective, I got any eufy 30c Max last August and am VERY happy with the results.
I've got a spaniel and a visiting grate dane (that sheds constantly), eufy is programmed to clean overnight and does a really good job.
I empty it and clear the brush of wrapped hairs every day which takes a few minutes, but definitely don't need yo empty mid clean.
Good that you can send back for a refund though.

Chasingsquirrels · 09/02/2021 13:49

Aggghhh it a great dane obviously.

Toorapid · 09/02/2021 13:49

I find Eufy very thorough, more than me, but no pets here.

Phyzzy · 09/02/2021 13:58

I want one. DH does all the hoovering but only once a week. There are two of us and a cat and it's a big house, is there a difference in range?

borageforager · 09/02/2021 14:22

I agree on carpet AlternativePerspective, I use mine on our hard floors only, doesn’t get enough up on carpet.

Chasingsquirrels · 09/02/2021 14:25

Mine is fine on carpets, which are all fairly low pile.

GamingNewb · 09/02/2021 14:51

@GamingNewb

I’ve heard that nothing will cut it other than a roomba. I’ve got a roomba and it's life changing. I never ever want another vacuum ever again. I bought my roomba in 2012 and it's still going strong.

I’ve got a Labrador, so lots of dog hairs, and it's better than my Dyson animal. Honestly, I would never look back. I bought it from Amazon £200 delivered and they still retail at much the same price, nearly a decade later.

OP, I did warn you! Only the Roomba cuts it.

Based on what my parents saw in my Roomba they bought a Eufy and it was who shit they didn't bother repairing it when it died at 4 months old. I thought they should have at least returned it but they just gave up altogether, which is a real shame as I’ve also got a Labrador and my bin is full of her every single day!

SinkGirl · 09/02/2021 15:01

I’ve always been too scared after the infamous cat poo vs robovac social media post. Could really do with one though.

Phyzzy · 10/02/2021 16:11

So after reading this thread and doing some review googling I bought a Bagotte BG800. Got a good deal I think, paid £176 and it's normally £249.
I chose it because it maps rather than just wandering randomly. It's sat charging now so will test drive it tomorrow.
Just need a witty name for it now.

That's a real shame. Mine has been brilliant on (short fibre wool mix) carpet and it has picked up so much cat hair (I have a short haired pedigree). Mine also seems to pick up lots of grit which amazes me because we dont wear shoes around the house.

I have never had a dog - do you think vacuums cope differently with dog vs. cat hair? Dog hair always strikes me as being thicker, perhaps longer.

OnceUponARainbow · 11/02/2021 07:46

I was going to buy the Eufy but missed the deal on Amazon for £170 so still looking. I didn’t realise the Bagotte did the mapping thing. Let us know how you get on @Phyzzy!

Thimbleberries · 11/02/2021 09:44

the Neato has a pet version and seems pretty good on (human) long hair. It has a square end so that it is supposed to get into corners, although I don't find it goes into all of them (but I have a v small crowded flat). It remembers the floor plan and you can set lines to tell it where not to go. It comes in the Black Friday deals for much cheaper than normal.

HandlebarLadyTash · 12/02/2021 15:35

Dont forget to check top cashback before purchasing, often has a £15-30 cashback deal

HandlebarLadyTash · 12/02/2021 15:42

It takes a good few runs to get to the point of not having to empty every day (non pet household) I have the one that goes up & down rather than random bouncing (pic included of dust box after doing upstairs carpet run - I run her 4-6 times a week)

WatchWatch · 12/02/2021 16:01

We also have a eufy. I bloody love her!

We've had her 18 months and she goes off every day. We have just replaced her battery (£30) and it is totally worth it.

Phyzzy · 12/02/2021 16:50

Had it a couple of days now.
I think if you live in a small modern flat with no clutter it would do very well. In a large old house with odd shaped rooms it would take a week to get around.
It's very thorough, does the edges better than DH who is normally responsible for hoovering.
The mapping is good, you can view on the app where it's been but it doesn't remember it. I think you need the £1000 top of range to do that.
A bit needy, you have to prepare the room for it and it gets stuck or lost too far away from home.
I think the best way is to put it in a room with the door shut and then move it to the next room.
The cat is traumatised.
Battery lasts about 50 minutes but it takes hours to re-charge.
So the verdict is that it's useful but not a substitute.
