Looking for quick and honest responses on robot vacuum cleaners

I currently have a vileda which has just bitten the dust and wasn’t very good anyway.

Have seen elsewhere a discussion re robot cleaners, and a link to one of the Eufy ones which is on sale currently.

But before I buy one, I want to know whether it really is worth the money.

I know the appeal of having a robotic vacuum cleaner, but is it really all it’s cracked up to be? Or has anyone ever bought one and ended up stuffing it in a cupboard never again to see the light of day?

I'm thinking of getting a robot vacuum, what about the sides of rooms and corners though?
Also, which is the best one for a vacuum and mop option?

MsJackieWeaver · 06/02/2021 20:55

I adore my Roomba so much I'd choose him over my DH any day Grin

Which ones can also mop as I didn't realise that was also an option?

GingerFigs · 06/02/2021 21:15

@wellerhugs5 my cats are terrified of the normal hoover which is the reason I don't hoover as often as I should Blush Is your cat scared because it moves or is it the noise? How noisy is it?

I'm not sure about the mop option but my Eufy does the edges and corners better than I ever did. He has little brush arms that stick out and get right into the edges.

I have a lab x who sheds like crazy & I run Eufy at least once a day. I really like it BUT we have all hard floors downstairs, when I try it on the carpets upstairs I am not very impressed, & in fact don’t bother to take her up there as she doesn’t do a good enough job.

Aposterhasnoname · 06/02/2021 21:32

Bloody love my robo vac. I got this for £110 on prime day. Best money I ever spent. Honestly it’s life changing.

I have Eufy for upstairs which is OK but nowhere near as good as the Roborock S5 Max I have downstairs. It is a dual hoover and mop and is utterly indispensable to me now.

The app and user interface for the Roborock (Robbie) is miles better than the Eufy. Robbie ha San built in mapping capability so on first use he trundled round and mapped out the entire ground floor. I can then set him to clean specific rooms or zones e.g. kitchen and hallway. He will do his alloyed tasks and the. Return to his base for charging. His mopping capability is great too - I honestly was expecting this to be a bit of a gimmick but it's really not. No more mopping for me, trust Robbie does it all!

I have Eufy 15c max (extra suction) and I’m honestly it has changed my life. We have a mixture of tiles and wood downstairs and carpets upstairs.
My husband grumbled when I bought it last November and said we didn’t need another hoover, what a waste of money etc. He now tells everyone he knows they should buy a Eufy.

Peckhampalace · 06/02/2021 22:58

Eufy here too after a thread last year. Very glad I bought it, does a better job than expected and programmed to run round three times a week. Picks up amazing amount of dust and fluff and can get under most of the furniture. Would replace if he went wrong!

twinsagain77 · 07/02/2021 00:19

Are these robo vac's useful on carpets as well as hard floors?.

HollowTalk · 07/02/2021 00:44

How does it not fall down the stairs? I wish there was one for the stairs. I'd buy that in a flash

spongedog · 07/02/2021 00:55

After following a thread on here I impulse bought this one (Black Friday deal). www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07XXXKBL9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

It is brilliant. Small household - single parent, teenage DC and a short-haired cat. My teenager loves gadgets so took responsibility for all the set up - machine and apps. I reckon the 1st weekend it did our landing (carpet) and bathrooms (vinyl) 10 times. It picks up so much pet hair, dust, bits. It is easy to use and clean. I really love using it in the kitchen (ceramic tiles) - it has a quick 30 min programme.

For a laugh I took it over to my mum's house (support bubble). She has been unwell and struggles to hoover properly. So we set EUFY running upstairs and and I hoovered downstairs. It did brilliantly and she (in her 80s) is so tempted to get one. I do worry about her tripping on it.

The only downside is that my teenager's plans to make a fortune on youtube from cat/robovac videos are not going well Grin Grin. Cat hates it!!

mommybear1 · 07/02/2021 09:06

@twinsagain77 yes mine is fine on carpets the Eufy has 3 different fan settings so for some carpets that are thicker pile I put him on Max and others is just Standard. My DF has thick carpets and his is always on Max he finds the Eufy struggles on one of his carpets to get all the bits but it does get the majority.

mommybear1 · 07/02/2021 09:08

@HollowTalk it has "drop sensors" so it won't fall but sadly it doesn't yet do stairs Grin

Toorapid · 07/02/2021 09:37

I also bought an Eufy handheld vac and do the stairs with that in in less than 5 mins. I'm not doing to say it's a thorough job but so much better than lugging the Dyson around.

ittakes2 · 07/02/2021 09:46

Great thread thank you!

PolarnOPirate · 07/02/2021 09:47

Yep it’s great! Still have the big one for stairs/skirting/sofas/Xmas tree needles after removing tree/thorough cleans but barely use it.

TrickyD · 07/02/2021 09:51

Nice to see MN’s Eufy fan club as enthusiastic as ever.

One of its unsung advantages is that if you suspect it has sucked up an earring, it is so much easier to poke through its little pull out tray than go through a big dust bag.

Toorapid · 07/02/2021 10:03

I think I need to know more about the mopping ones. Does it need to dry thoroughly inbetween mopping and vacuuming?

Chasingsquirrels · 07/02/2021 10:19

I got one last August and would replace immediately if it broke.
It's programmed to vacuum in the middle of the night so I wake up to a clean downstairs. It doesn't do the kitchen/conservatory/utility as the dog is in there at night, so every few days I'll put it in there. Once a week I set it off upstairs.

I'm seriously tempted by a mopping one, but see varying reviews.

Oooh, which one?! Tell us more!

Pros and cons??

Adirondack · 07/02/2021 10:24

I have the Coredy 750. It hoovers and mops. I love it. Mix of hard floors and carpets in our house. It’s amazing how much it picks up! In the evening I get it to hoover the kitchen tiles then switch it to mop mode so the floors are washed without any little gritty bits being pushed about in the wet. My other top tip is to take the cushions off the sofa and set the robot hoover to clean all the dust and crumbs that accumulate on the sofa base. It’s amazing what goes down the cracks between the cushions and coredy gets it all! Plus the cliff sensors mean it doesn’t fall off. Am considering getting a second robot hoover for upstairs but wondering if that is a bit frivolous?

Toorapid · 07/02/2021 10:26

I think there were only two and I bought the cheaper one because I don't need the pet hair feature, about £40, I think, so my reasoning was if it was only used for occasional spills and/or the car, it would be OK, but it's made the stairs very quick and easy. Probably not as thorough as doing it "properly" though.

It's just a small, light handheld vac.

I've been putting off hoovering my sofa, so this post has come at exactly the right time. Thank you!
