Why don’t delivery drivers get out of the car anymore?

Is it just me that thinks that having to get shoes and coat on and go and find a car in the dark street kind of defeats the point in ordering a takeaway? When I lived in London all food was delivered to the door but now I live elsewhere I’ve always had to go into the street to collect. When did the etiquette change?

Nope, I've always had it delivered to my door.

Bunnybigears · 06/02/2021 18:10

It hasn't where I live. We use Just Eat, Delivered, Uber Eats and the takeaways own drivers and all of them knock on the door.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 06/02/2021 18:11

How odd! I’ve never heard of this

Hasn’t changed where I live. Tell them to come to your door

SoddingWeddings · 06/02/2021 18:12

Nope, just you.

NommyChompers · 06/02/2021 18:13

Hmmm intriguing! Is is just a Leeds thing then? No matter where I order from - and plenty of places to park up within 20 meters of the door....

We always have takeaway delivered to our door (Manchester). Has there been a spate of driver muggings / robberies maybe, so they won't get out of the car? Any particular company?

Nohomemadecandles · 06/02/2021 18:13

Just you, this one!

Bunnybigears · 06/02/2021 18:14

Are you hard to find? In a block of flats etc?

sunflowersandbuttercups · 06/02/2021 18:15

We've just had takeaway delivered and they knocked on the door.

Jsnn · 06/02/2021 18:15

That's so weird. Never heard of having to go to their car. Sounds like some lazy drivers.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 06/02/2021 18:18

We had a fridge freezer delivered yesterday and the delivery guys masked up, sanitised and brought into the house.

eternalopt · 06/02/2021 18:19

I have never had to go into the street to get my takeaway! How odd.

SoddingWeddings · 06/02/2021 18:22

My brother is in Leeds, he says they knock his door.

I think you need to ask the companies what on earth is going on. Perhaps your address is blacklisted?

gingercat02 · 06/02/2021 18:23

Ours all leave on doorstep, knock, step back and wait until someone opens the door. Must just be your area OP

NommyChompers · 06/02/2021 18:24

Now I’m really confused. Since being in Leeds in several addresses all easy to find with places for cars to stop I always get ‘I’m in a silver car’ and if I say ‘can you please bring to the door’ I get some pushback until they finally agree - not dodgy neighbourhood, no dogs. Maybe it’s just a run of bad luck....

Do you mean drug dealers? That's always how it used to work with my weed man back in the day? My takeaway always comes to the door though.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 06/02/2021 18:27

There is an option to "collect from car" on some delivery apps. I have used it (funnily enough, in Leeds!) when I've been staying in hotels. Have you selected it without realising?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 06/02/2021 18:29

Like this on Uber Eats.

Why don’t delivery drivers get out of the car anymore?
2cantkeepasecret · 06/02/2021 18:32

Im in Leeds and use uber eats and just eat and they always come to the door ( after calling us and buggering about trying to locate us )

NommyChompers · 06/02/2021 18:33

No the instructions all say ‘bring to entrance of block and I will come down to foyer’ and then I get ‘please come find my car’ - and it’s several addresses so it can’t be a blacklist thing. Maybe just a city centre thing? I’m just giving up on ordering takeaways I reckon

I live in Kent and they always come to the door. When I lived in Brixton in London, pizza hut refused to deliver to the door, we had to meet them on the main road. But this was about 10 years ago!

NommyChompers · 06/02/2021 18:40

Hahaha well thanks for the responses guys - looks like it’s just me! Enjoy your takeaways!
