Boring but am I the only person left that doesn't have a smart meter?

SSE are bombarding me with letters and phone calls about getting someone around to fit one.
What's in it for me? And what does it entail to have one fitted? We currently have the two cupboards with doors with a little key for Gas and Electricity and the meters are inside.

I have little interest in seeing exactly what we're using, it's always the same and we do everything we can to not waste energy.

I don't have one, my electricity meter used to be a coin fed economy 7 meter that's been amended but isn't compatible with a smart meter.

VettiyaIruken · 06/02/2021 16:04

I don't.
Scottish power have contacted me a couple of times acting like it's compulsory and I just ignore them.

SeasonFinale · 06/02/2021 16:04

No we don't have one and won't be getting one. We get texts asking fo readings and provide them. So there is no need for one.

Piranesio · 06/02/2021 16:04

Nope, we don't have one and periodically get multiple letters about the "opportunity". Then they forget for a while before they start again. I won't be getting one.

eurochick · 06/02/2021 16:05

We don't have one.

I believe the power companies have targets to get certain numbers fitted, hence the pressure on customers to agree to it.

MrsSpenserGregson · 06/02/2021 16:05

No, we don't have one and won't be getting one. I have asked SSE to take me off their smart meter mailing list but they refuse. So now I post all their cards and letters straight back to them.

LaPoesieEstDansLaRue · 06/02/2021 16:05

We had one installed recently at insistence of British Gas. Like you, I wasn't really bothered and it hasn't really had an effect on how we use energy as we still just use what we'd always use.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 06/02/2021 16:06

No and not planning on one either

Floralnomad · 06/02/2021 16:07

I don’t , our supplier have been offering me a smart meter for years now and I’ve no intention of changing .

musicinspring1 · 06/02/2021 16:07

No we don’t have one. They sent someone round but apparently our house is too old ?? Am not bothered !

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 06/02/2021 16:07

We don't have one. I don't want one.

MiaowMiaow99 · 06/02/2021 16:08

Nope. Not a chance. I switch providers every year so need to wait until they become universally compatible.

LetItGoGo · 06/02/2021 16:08

No.

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2021 16:08

Oh thanks everyone, it really isn't just me then. Smile

What is the advantage of them? I too just send a meter reading every quarter.

SSE are in my area next week apparently.

megletthesecond · 06/02/2021 16:09

I don't. I read my meters every month anyway.

wibblewombat · 06/02/2021 16:09

Had one, stopped working when I changed supplier. More difficult to take a manual reading now. Heap of shit.

NoWordForFluffy · 06/02/2021 16:09

This is our feelings about it too. Until / unless they're compulsory, then we won't get one.
Akire · 06/02/2021 16:09

Don’t blame you all the advertising is this will save you money this will save the planet. Rubbish I use just as much as before - what I needed. I suppose it saves them having send someone to read the meter once a year but that’s about it. Who are all these people that have houses ablaze and need a daily electric bill to pursued them to turn a light off when they leave a room?

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2021 16:10

I didn't realise that if you changed supplier they didn't just transfer. Blush

AnnaSW1 · 06/02/2021 16:13

I don't have one. They kept phoning trying to make an appointment and I just lied and said I already have one.. the calls have stopped Grin

dementedpixie · 06/02/2021 16:13

Depends what type of meter it is. Some can't transfer between suppliers and some can

I don't have one either. I submit monthly readings myself

Ch3rish · 06/02/2021 16:14

They do now, the early ones didn't but if you have one today it will I believe. Martin Lewis was talking about this on his programme this week, I think he always takes sense and I'm pretty sure he he said that as far as he's concerned there's no reason not to have one
StarsOnAMat · 06/02/2021 16:14

Nah we don’t have one either. Moved from Eon to So Energy about four years ago. They wrote once about changing the meter and never again. I submit readings monthly so I know what I use anyway.

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2021 16:15

I only want one if there's some advantage to me. I am not seeing there being one yet.

OP posts:
KleineDracheKokosnuss · 06/02/2021 16:16

We don’t have one. Our supplier doesn’t pester us either.
