As the title says really. Am selling a pretty ordinary item of skincare on eBay. Brand new but box a bit squished.

It’s about £14.99 and in stock on a wide range of easily accessible websites.

Bids plus postage currently at £15.98.

WTF.

WHY?!?!

Ohhh I’m glad I seen this as I noticed this the other day and wanted to post about it. I was looking for a coat for dd on eBay, spot one with the bids up to £45, with £5 postage, go onto the website it was from and the same coat was in sale for £31 and was available in the size the listing was! I seriously don’t get why people do this, why would you pay more than what it sells for on the site Confused I can get if the item is no longer available and you really want it but when the website is still selling it for less Hmm

I know! Why would you buy this on e bay - when its been hanging round my house since December - when you could get a new fresh one from Boots! I could understand if it was out of stock everywhere, but it's not. WHY?!

Exactly and it’s having to wait for the bidding to end then the person to post it when they could just go online and order it in one click for less money, someone must know why people do this, it seems to be pretty common from what I’ve heard!

I'd be wary of that. Ebay and Paypal seem to side with the buyer way more often than the seller so if they say it didn't arrive/wasn't as described they could end up with their money back and the item.

Is there Sometimes an advantage to the ease of eBay I wonder, as opposed to perhaps filling in details from scratch on a website you haven’t used?! I think some people just don’t cross reference prices , too.

wrinklyelbows · 06/02/2021 03:40

They might have a discount code

iveturnedintoachip · 06/02/2021 07:58

Some people like the thrill of bidding. Or haven't bothered to check the original site.

Oh i noticed this yesterday i was looking at loccitane stuff on ebay for dm and noticed everything was nearly retail price with heavy postage on top. On next months pay day it will work out much cheaper me just buying off the original website.

RuggeryBuggery · 06/02/2021 08:05

Yes weird!
I think people start bidding and get carried away? Or just don’t look at the new price?

DuckyMcDuck · 06/02/2021 08:45

Could it be that they are shielding and so not going out to any shops at all?

Happycat1212 · 06/02/2021 10:49

But they can still buy it online from the store Confused even if they are not going out, tbh I think some people just like the thrill of “winning”
