Need cloud storage for phone camera roll that doesn’t delete photos

For the past couple of years I’ve been backing up my camera roll from my iPhone to my google photos app. My understanding was that even if I delete the images from my camera roll, that the photos would still remain in the Google photos app.
However I’ve just checked my google photos App library and all the photos that I deleted from my camera roll have also been deleted from my google photos. Which is somewhat upsetting as I thought all my children’s baby photos were stored safety and now I’ve lost them.

Is there an app that does what I am after? I don’t mind paying for a subscription if it does what I need it to. Any recommendations?

you can buy iCloud storage from apple. i think i pay about a fiver a month for 15GB.

(something like that, anyway! you can deffo buy extra storage tho)

But does iCloud storage delete photos from the cloud if you delete them from your camera roll?
That’s my main issue.

You don’t need to delete them off the camera roll; you never run out of storage because they’re not stored on your phone

Yes it would... but when you are seeing them on your phone you are basically accessing the iCloud iyswim.
They aren’t taking up storage space on your actual phone any more but you can see them on your camera roll.

If you want your photos to be automatically backed up to somewhere like the iCloud then it will also delete them from the cloud if you delete them from your phone. I assume it’s the same with google photos but don’t know much about that.

I print all of my photos every month via the FreePrints app. I love sitting with my grandad and mum going through old family photos, I just think there's something nice about having the actual photographs physically.

I did also but a terabyte passport hard drive and backed up my photos to that so I do also have them all digitally.

Google photos doesn’t delete them, it’s not synched to your iPhone account. Something odd has happened there.

I've been using amazon photos for the last few months.

This!!
I have 9,000 + photos 'on my phone' .
They're not actually stored on my phone as they are in icloud but I can see them all on my phone and they are automatically saved to and can be viewed on my laptop too.

So when I want to view my pictures then do I go into my camera roll app as per usual? Or is there a different app for iCloud storage? I can’t believe I’ve lost two years of important baby photos and videos 😢

No, just go onto your camera roll as normal. Or you can log into the iCloud on a computer. I have thousands of photos on my phone!
