For me, I think it was at a cousins wedding abroad; we were happy and the kids were happy. Carefree day.

What about you? X

A day trip to Bournemouth a few years ago. I was recovering from major surgery and that day was the first day in months that I hadn't had to have a lie-down during the day. We sat on the beach and I managed to get around some shops, and then we finished up having cocktails and dinner at TGIs. I remember that day especially because I felt close to being "normal" after months of feeling barely human, and the memories of it still warm my heart!

NannyGythaOgg · 05/02/2021 20:01

I can remember 2 occasions when I felt euphoric about life at that moment when it happened (which wouldn't necessarily be my happiest events - just moments of unadulterated pleasure.

1 was on a ski lift in France on my first skiing holiday. The lift had stopped momentarily (which it did regularly whenever someone didn't manage to ski away at the top). The sun was shining, the sky was a perfect blue and the mountains totally white. It was that really dry, crisp cold and as the lift had stopped it was perfectly and completely silent. A few moments of bliss (which wouldn't have lasted if the lift was still too long)

The second was on a narrow boat on the Norfolk broads. Away with friends, the kids happy (and getting on) and perfect weather. Again away from anything that could be considered 'normal' life and totally peaceful.

There may have been others but these happened many years ago (1989 and 1994) but they live on in my memory.

Africa2go · 05/02/2021 20:10

Yes as a pp has said, sitting on a ski lift on 1st family ski holiday, had skied lots pre-kids then had break of 10yrs+. Children smiling, it was just sooooo beautiful and silent.

On a REALLY cheapo day trip to Disneyland Paris (we were skint) and during the parade, the "real life" Snow White spotted my 5yr old in the crowd wearing her Snow White fancy dress costume, came over and curtsied to DD. She was just gobsmacked, the look of wonder & joy on her face was priceless.

On honeymoon, I burst in tears for no apparent reason, only time I've thought it was tears of happiness. I was just so content.

When I was 12, I took my little sister (age 6), to the pictures to see the Sound of Music, then to a cafe for a milkshake. As we were on our way home she said to me "This is the best day I've ever had!" Made me feel so happy, such a lovely memory. Sadly, she died far too young but I treasure this moment.

Apart from the usual wedding and children being born obviously, my best day was on a holiday to Iceland. We went snorkelling in a fissure in a glacier, the water was so clear you could just drink it and the whole thing was just incredible.

It was an amazing thing in itself but what stands out about it was how far out of my comfort zone it was. I hated outdoor stuff and swimming etc and I really challenged myself that day and felt the rewards.

blahblahmeh · 05/02/2021 21:00

Other than my daughter being born I'd say going up Haleakala volcano in Hawaii to watch the sunrise or snorkelling in the Seychelles

My wedding day! I was pretty casual leading up to it and didn't have high expectations and I was just totally blown away by the day. All of our favourite people together, lots of food, drink, music and laughter. Was just a brilliant day Smile

The day my sons adoption order was granted, very overwhelming.

Getting signed to my first big rugby club.

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 05/02/2021 21:13

My wedding day - to DH number three. He is the current Mr Mushroom and we have been married 17 yrs. I still can't believe he wanted to marry me - he is my best friend and we are perfect together.
The day was wonderful and is still talked about by family and friends.

Florencenotflo · 05/02/2021 21:17

Our wedding was definitely up there, but not for the 'usual' reasons. It was one of the last times that I had all my grandparents in one place, healthy and happy. All my Aunts, Uncles and cousins were there, meaning my Grandparents had all their children and grandchildren in one place at the same time. It was a lovely day, lots to drink, lots of laughing. It's sadly gone a bit downhill since then, but it was a lovely day and we have so many photos of everyone together.

The other time that stands out is mine and DH's last holiday before dd1 was born. I was 25 weeks pregnant, we'd been refunded £1700 by our bank for some mistake they made to do with our mortgage. I wanted to save it for maternity leave, DH convinced me to spend it on one last holiday.

We've had some amazing holidays together, and he found a lovely all inclusive place in Tenerife which would never usually have been our first choice. But it was honestly so perfect. I literally sat on a sunbed in the shade for 7 whole days, I read 8 books, I drank lovely non-alcoholic cocktails and ate so much lovely food.

But we spent that week enjoying each other's company, talking, planning. At the time we didn't realise how much our lives were about to change, and I did think DH was being daft not saving the money. But I'm so glad we went. It was the last carefree, child free holiday we had and I love reminiscing about that holiday.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 05/02/2021 21:18

The first hour of my honeymoon. We sat on the beach with a drink, reading the guest book from our wedding, just thrilled to be together, and married.

Then we went and made DD Grin

spaceghetto · 05/02/2021 21:21

We took our trailer tent for a test run in October (uk). It was completely chucking it down. I was snuggled up one side with my 2 yo and dh was the otherwise with ds 6. They were hysterically laughing as dh had got a big drip of water on his head. It made me feel so happy!

harknesswitch · 05/02/2021 21:21

A 5 day break in Barcelona, about 18 months after leaving my abusive dh. It was amazingly, carefree and happy. Just 5 days of indulging myself

lastqueenofscotland · 05/02/2021 21:23

A few years ago I ran a Good For Age time in the London marathon. I had worked my arse off and it all paid off. I loved every step.

MagicSeeker · 05/02/2021 21:44

The moment I realised the pregnancy test was positive. It had been a long time coming and I only did it on the off-chance, a bit like grabbing a scratch card at the till! Thought it was way too early in the month and was fully expecting yet another negative. Put it on the window ledge while taking my makeup off before bed. Glanced down and saw that extra blue line. Knew I needed to stay calm and at least take the makeup off the second eye before showing DH the stick! The best moment of my life, hands down (was too shattered after 35 hour labour for it to be the birth moment!!)

inquietant · 05/02/2021 21:45

The first time taking one of our children out of NICU for a walk. It meant they were really on the mend.

My oldest when he was 2... On the polar express train and he truly believed Star
We have a photo and his little face is just so happy..

Our time in Mexico was beautiful... On a beach early morning watching sunrise... We married there too...

A night in Coco Bongos dancing the night away literally not a care in the world... I am naturally quite stressy and highly strung so for me to feel like this is a big deal...

Both of my pregnancy tests.... And the end results of course....

noblegreenk · 05/02/2021 22:56

When my daughter was born. I had a terrible few years with family losses prior to her birth, so when she was born it felt like I'd won the worlds biggest prize and something so wonderfully amazing had happened. I still get overwhelmed thinking about it.

Other than that, it would be one night on holiday with my first love in 2003. I remember every detail down to exactly what we were wearing. We were so young and in love and I remember thinking that I would never be as in love with anyone else as I was with him in that moment. I was right.

Jumping into the water off a boat in the Great Barrier Reef.
First experience of skiing as a teenager.
My son grabbing the mike at a wedding when he was two and singing to all the guests.
Winning a swimming competition aged 11.
Lots of them involve swimming to be honest - outdoors, on holiday, feeling free and alive.
