Any civil servants out there?? What Civil service department/ smaller department/ alb would you recommend working for, as a working mum?

Hi There, I know the civil service is generally good for working mums, but what departments/ smaller department agencies, would you recommend working for. So those with either maternity packages or good flexible working for mums.

(I am currently in the civil service - SEO grade, just trying to see where I could look next for a role - London based) I'm interested to know about Department for education maternity policy.

Also, would you move jobs when you return from maternity leave or would you stay at your current department? How easy is it to move once your baby comes along?

Thank you!

I think all departments will have broadly the same policies. It will be easier to find non specialist roles in the big delivery departments (HMRC, MOD and DWP).

I think it’s less about department but more about the specific role tbh in terms of how family friendly. They will all say the right things about flexible working but certain jobs aren’t conducive to that unfortunately. Job shares are a way round that. I suspect the best hours and predictability are probably to be found in the more dry-sounding agencies.
