For months I keep thinking of a book I read when I was a teen but I can’t find it so I’m hoping the mumsnet book sleuths can help.
I want to say I read it in the first few years of secondary so 1994-1996 ish?
It’s about a girl called Katharine, who lives with her mum. In part of the book her mum finds a lump, has a biopsy etc. The boy who lived next door was her friend and after seeing her wandering in the garden in the rain tells her “there are easier ways of washing your hair”.
She poses for some form of art exam, cradling a plant (a lily?) like a baby.
This seems like a weird bunch of stuff to remember about a book I was obsessed with as a teen but hopefully someone has an idea what it is!
