Had to go into work today. because some stuff could be only done from there told DH and 3DD's would be back mid afternoon. Turns out minute I left they had a family meeting and decided to play hooky for the day!! DH rang schools for youngest 2 and advised they would not be on lessons (am amazed they never asked for a reason)
They then planned a hooky day agenda starting with basketball shoot out, football shoot out, walk down the river with dogs, mud everywhere followed by fish and chips on the village green for lunch.
Wardrobes raided because we are having a fashion show later, living room re-arranged to accommodate this.
Currently playing PS games against each other, fashion show is at 4.30 followed by dominoes for tea I have been advised.
Then a movie, yet to be decided I am recommending St Trinians cos that's what it feel like I have come home to today and I am now calling DH flash harry as he is a co conspirator.
I know some people will say its wrong but it probably the best day they have had so far in ages.

Sounds like a great day!

TimeToCloseTheDoor · 05/02/2021 14:39

Sounds perfect to me and how lovely that they all still want to spend time together

DorotheaHomeAlone · 05/02/2021 14:44

Um. I would hate this! No problem with the much-needed hooky day but why did it happen behind your back rather than include you too? I would really dislike being cast in the role of disciplinarian against whom they all rebel and have fun when my back is turned. I’d feel pretty hurt actually.

BoogleMcGroogle · 05/02/2021 14:45

If my children had shown these planning skills, and got on with each other this well in my absence, I’d consider that a win. Sounds like they had a great time, and no need to cook dinner!

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 05/02/2021 14:47

That sounds brilliant! DH does stuff like this when I'm at work - he is more fun than I am Grin Last time they had house Olympics and it all got very competitive...

peak2021 · 05/02/2021 14:47

Not St Trinians please- sexism personified. Hope the dogs enjoyed their extra walk.

Zoecarter · 05/02/2021 14:51

I’d be really upset missing a much needed different day and spending quality time together as a family making memories. Xx

Gliblet · 05/02/2021 14:53

I'd be peeved about missing out, but not peeved enough to take the shine off it for them.

DorotheaHomeAlone · 05/02/2021 15:01

Agreed with @Gliblet that I wouldn’t complain to the kids and would just join in and laugh it off but I would speak to DH later.

quicklybeingdrivenmad · 05/02/2021 15:03

Sorry if I offended anyone thought the St Trinains joke was a good analogy, but as for missing out DH and DDs have been amazing I buried my mum (and posted about my MIL) so they and DH have been helping me through it I actually enjoyed the fact not only did they do it to try and cheer me up they needed it for themselves

Even the most recent ones? They might not be perfect but... personified?

sadpapercourtesan · 05/02/2021 15:17

I think it sounds brilliant, but I would be hurt not to have been given the opportunity to be part of it Sad

Is there a reason why they felt the need to do it as soon as Mum's back was turned?

quicklybeingdrivenmad · 05/02/2021 15:30

because mum has been dealing with her mum's death, and estate and MIL reaction, so I admit not been the easiest person to live with, but they have been great along with Brother SIL and nephews, I have had a really tough time, so probably just checked out for a while from them, been dealing with paperwork probate etc not been in the best of moods I admit, so the fact they did it for themselves I am really proud off, fact as soon as I got it they told me plans which they had thought about for me (even though my wardrobe is in bits) I think they really thought about me this afternoon glad this morning was all them

Ah, that makes total sense. In that case I would be really proud of them too, it sounds fantastic. I'm sorry about your mum Flowers

Sexist or not St Trinians is a fun film. Colin Firth gets wet obviously. What's not to like?

Glad your family had a fun day op.
