Is Fitbit accurate for calories burned?

Just got a Charge 4,it's my first Fitbit.
It's saying I've burned 468 calories on a 3 mile brisk walk.I used to use Map my Walk and that said around 250 calories for 3 miles.Which is more accurate? T.i.a

Not at all - best for calories is whoop but it's 25 dollars a month but amazingly accurate and worth it

The Map by walk sounds more accurate. Are you sure the Fitbit isnt recording total calories burnt so far today including exercise?

Not accurate at all. A 3 mile brisk walk would burn about 150/250 calories for a healthy normal person.

The amount of calories was on the app for that particular walk.

Midway through my six stone weight loss, my PT had me do a workout wearing a jacket weighted by the amount I'd lost. I was carrying that around by default all the time before I lost it, with smaller muscles too.

Point being, FitBit can only work with the data it has. Even if your weight is on there, your body composition will vary from someone else's.

Tongtwister · 05/02/2021 11:26

No not accurate at all I'm afraid. It's a great motivator to keep busy though.

LindaEllen · 05/02/2021 11:32

I find that FitBit is quite good for resting calories, but overestimates exercise calories.

Howmanysleepsnow · 05/02/2021 11:52

My Fitbit used to be well over twice as generous with active calories as my Apple Watch, and as I ate the calories burned I gained loads of weight!

soughsigh · 10/02/2021 13:23

When I was logging my calories eaten and using the fitbit calories burnt, I lost the amount of weight I was expecting to lose based on the deficit.

I think the fitbit calories include what you would have burnt even if you weren't moving. I tend to use the day's total and ignore the exercise total.

Check how many steps your Fitbit racks up when driving, pushing a trolley/pram and sleeping. That should help choose which calorie burn to use. Fitbit are wildly inaccurate.
