Long shot - ship horn in Southampton

I realise its highly unlikely anyone will be able to help but I live in Southampton and there has been a ships horn blaring every three or so minutes for aaaages now.

Does anyone know why? I've checked the Port Authority website and twitter and the local paper but nothing, it's so weird.

My first thought was someone important had died ie the Queen. Then I wondered if there was a state occasion i wasnt aware of but nope! I then moved on to wondering whether it's the cruise ship which has been stuck just outside the Solent since quarantine and they're saying 'we're still here - let us dock!!' but this seems unlikely, a bit stupid and not sure if it's still there to be honest.

Anyone got any ideas?

Needles lighthouse on the IOW? They have a fog horn that often goes off all night, it sounds every minute or so when it’s on.

Ooh - that could be very likely although not sure if its foggy out there today. We live about 2 miles inland which is why its unusual to hear any horns so clearly (unless for a specific reason when every harbour and dock goes mad for a while ie Clap for Carers).. for those right by the water, I cant imagine how loud it is!

It does seem to have stopped! Weird...

It's been very foggy this morning although cleared up well.

The wind must be in the wrong direction for us to hear them. Sometimes we can although we are quite a long way inland. I would guess fog as well

Fabulous - thank you, MN is awesome.

I am now curious about the cruise shop which was stuck just outside Southampton, only coming in for supplies every few days. I cant see any news on this, so hopefully the crew have been finally able to disembark!

I can hear a ship's horn just now. Is it because of fog or because the ship leaving port? I'm a long way inland
