30 weeks pregnant - contractions/cramps from expressing colostrum

Hi all,
In need of some advice please - I got very excited that my milk was coming in at 30 weeks and had a go at expressing colostrum for around 5 minutes. Now I am having period-like cramping and pains. Is this Braxton Hicks? When should I worry that I’m going into premature labour? Thanks in advance

Ring maternity triage, now. Painful cramps need to be discussed with a midwife asap, to assess if they are labour or some other concerning issue.

And my understanding is that you shouldn't usually start expressing until 36/40, but by all means check with your healthcare professionals.

Why are you trying to express?

You should only try colostrum harvesting if you have been advised to by your midwife, it’s not usually advised this early unless there is a plan in pace to deliver your baby early anyway.

Contact your midwife or local maternity unit ASAP.
