There is some awful behaviour on here.

It breaks down badly at 4 minutes.

I wish schools would include training videos as a pp above has mentioned this could be made into, life skill lessons.

Spoonofnutella · 05/02/2021 09:20

I would like to know what action will be taken against the councillors involved?

Dagnabit · 05/02/2021 09:22

I have every respect for Jackie but she really needs to bone up on popular culture - Britney is so 90’s!

I used to attend meetings as part of my housing association role and councillors attended - some were good but a few were like the men in this video Grin

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 05/02/2021 09:22

@Hoiking

But......did they have a point?? Can a clerk remove councillors from a meeting??
I think that was the relevance of the ‘not attending a meeting for six months’ comment. If you don’t attend for six months, you’ve barred yourself basically. I might have misunderstood but I think that the Chair had been refusing to call a meeting for a period of time too?

I want girls to see this and know how to deal with men like them as they grow up. I have gone from thinking the video is funny to feeling very angry that at how long this been allowed to go on. Some of the older male consultants at work are like this.
Roussette · 05/02/2021 09:22

I'll bet there's not a single one of us who doesn't know multiple men like this

Yep.

And this is why I don't go on our local parish council or volunteer for anything in our village. (I do other volunteering instead)
Because I know what it's like. I remember it from when I was young and lived in a village and my parents spent their lives talking about what went on at last night's meeting. Nothing's changed in 50+ years unfortunately.

Swiftjogger · 05/02/2021 09:23

The chair had been asked to call meetings but had refused.

ListeningQuietly · 05/02/2021 09:23

Place mark to read and watch later

Soboredofcorona · 05/02/2021 09:23

I moved to a rural area a few years ago and joined the PC to try to make friends and get to know people! Big mistake!
I was instantly approached to take sides in all the petty, personal rows going on.

Stretchandsnap · 05/02/2021 09:24

Jackie aka Britney - she’s fab - This is what I needed this morning!
So many questions, about how it got to this point

Botherfreedays · 05/02/2021 09:26

Just read the BBC article that doesn't even mention the clear misogyny or How Jackie manages the meeting. Typical BBC sexism.

HangryPants · 05/02/2021 09:30

I keep wondering how they're feeling this morning. Even if you came across pretty well, it's very exposing. I hope they're all ok.

RaspberryCoulis · 05/02/2021 09:30

Those men are going to be fuming that their true colours have been exposed.

No chance. That sort of person never accepts they are wrong. They will be sitting at home feeling wronged, and blaming Jackie / Sue / the other lady.

readthestandingorders · 05/02/2021 09:31

This is just how it used to be at community council meetings in the small village I used to live in.

I don't live there anymore thankfully

LunaAzul · 05/02/2021 09:34

Having lived next to Handforth for most of my life, I wondered what was going on when I saw it trending on Twitter when I woke up!

banivani · 05/02/2021 09:34

Jackie has a Wikipedia page now - a double win, considering that women generally are under-represented there!

Makingnumber2 · 05/02/2021 09:35

Jackie Weaver is my new hero!!

HRoosevelt · 05/02/2021 09:37

@JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows

Take Aled bloke's tone of voice, the way shrieks at Jackie then calls the man he's with an "old fool" makes my blood run cold. He's the epitome of an abusive man.
Yes
Redburnett · 05/02/2021 09:38

Ghastly grey men, sensible woman.

GrimDamnFanjo · 05/02/2021 09:42

I hope that the local voters see this...

NewYorkIvy · 05/02/2021 09:43

The one and only Jackie Weaver is going to be on Woman's Hour on radio 4 today.

Minecraftmadness · 05/02/2021 09:43

I hope this is true!! I’m tuning in!

FlosCampi · 05/02/2021 09:44

I find this upsetting and a bit frightening rather than funny. I've been shouted at like this in the home, maybe that's why. Sorry for seeming so humourless!

HerselfIndoors · 05/02/2021 09:46

I was amazed this was covered on BBC news - obviously it was all over twitter, but it's not someone's comical dog, it's a private argument and it's horrible and embarrassing. I agree there is some nasty bullying behaviour that deserves to be censured, but I'm worried about the people involved too and the legality of it all.

iveturnedintoachip · 05/02/2021 09:50

Who's Barry? Why someone was possessed & started speaking like they were in the Exorcist?
