Wellies- tips to not bring mud in from everywhere, and where to store them!

Sick of mud all over the car or hallway when coming in from muddy walks.
Any tips to get the mud of boots quicker or keep it contained at least? Im thinking maybe a washable doormat?
Also where do you store your wellies? We had an upside down wooden thing outside the front door but couldn't bear all the spiders in them, so need we need another solution.

As for storage, Does anyone just store wellies in the car boot or will they never dry properly?

If anyone has any hacks of how to keep as mud free, but as spider free as possible please let me know!

If we’ve walked home we give them a blast from the hosepipe and then take them off while coming into the kitchen, I sit them on a plastic boot tray to save the floor getting wet and once dry insert one inside the other and pop in the under stairs cupboard.
If we’re getting in the car I keep a big IKEA bag in the boot, stand in one side, take off welly and put foot at other side of the bag, pop shoes on. Give the mud a shake out once dry.

Upside down metal thing in the utility room. We try to go in and out of that door only in wellies; bring the dog through that door as well etc. Do you have a back door off your kitchen or similar that you could keep a stand near? Easier to mop the floor etc.

I've got a boot scraper by the front door that brushes the edges as well as the soles.
And a boot buddy cleaner for tragic cases.

We live next to some very swampy woods, which otherwise seem to take over the hall floor despite taking shoes off in the first part of the hallway.

Boot liner in the car, always take a change of shoes. Ours are kept in a boot locker in the porch, they dont come in, ever.

Keep them in a big bag. Hose them down outside if you can.

boot buddy - life changing. Clean them in the street with this (avoids getting mud on the path and doorstep). Take them off before entering house. Carry boots to back door and leave on mat to dry (indoors). At this time of year I just leave them there as wearing them every day. Otherwise they go in a welly bag and hang up under stairs. Take the bag in the car boot when needed.

I’d get a wellie pull and keep it by the front door so you can just step out and into the house. We just keep them in the porch so they just go in there caked in mud then bashed off dry the next time we wear them. Or sling them in a boot bag in the car and hose them down at home.

I don’t agree with cleaning them on the path that means wheelchairs, pushchairs etc having to wheel through thick clarts and muddy water when they weren’t expecting it.

idontlikealdi · 04/02/2021 17:08

We keep ours in the boot of the car in a box. Change shoes when we get to wherever we are going.

Canyoureallymakemethin · 04/02/2021 17:13

I keep mine outside the front door with shower caps as covers. Stops the spiders getting in (our front door is covered by a porch but even if not the shower caps would keep out the rain

Scrape on the outside doormat, take off on the inside doormat, leave there to dry, put in a bag for life and store by hanging the bag on a coat hook.

If I had a back door and a hose, I’d use that, but the only way in is the front door and there’s no hose there.

Oldraver · 04/02/2021 18:12

We used to have a big plastic box with lid outside the back door to keep them in

mommybear1 · 04/02/2021 19:52

If out and about in the car change and put them into an IKEA bag and when home bring them into the utility and clean them in the sink with a brush. If coming home from a local walk boots off at the front door carry through to utility and wash leave on the mat by the door to dry when cleaned.

IsitSummeryet21 · 04/02/2021 19:57

Take off as get in the car and put them on a bag.
Put in garage till dried off a bit, bang the worst out in garden. Then wash under hosepipe. Store in shoe cupboard aka under stairs cupboard

Toorapid · 04/02/2021 20:01

Find a puddle to splash in and get the worst off before taking them off, then ours are kept in a plastic box in the car boot.

Throughhistory · 04/02/2021 20:02

Either a boot buddy or put them on one of those IKEA boot trays lined with puppy pads. Or just stand them on puppy pads if the boot tray is full of boots.

Beecham · 04/02/2021 20:08

We store ours in the porch outside. But it's not ideal as they're always freezing when they're put on. They never get cleaned except if walking through puddles or long wet grass
