Thank goodness some non-Stepford people have now arrived.

FTEngineerM · 04/02/2021 19:59

@Bleughbleughbleugh12

I’d never go to a country where I could go to prison for being raped because it was my fault alluring him in.
YES!
WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 04/02/2021 20:01

Why on earth would any woman set foot in a country where they are not a person but a males possession?

Sammydil · 04/02/2021 20:12

I live in Dubai . Just had my vaccine ... FYI its free and provided to everyone. Only the pfizer and astra are given to vulnerable and citizens first . The most efficient country when it comes to things like this.

Sammydil · 04/02/2021 20:13

Not the case

Idocaredoyou · 04/02/2021 20:13

Is it free to the virtual slave labourers?

Sammydil · 04/02/2021 20:14

Laws have changed . Be more informed

SavannahMiasMum · 04/02/2021 20:15

Don’t go to any country with backward thinking laws. Even most people who are born in such places want to leave

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 04/02/2021 20:17

@Sammydil

Laws have changed . Be more informed
Are you a woman? If so, do you have the same rights as men?

That is what I would like to know and I'd rather hear it from a woman who lives in Dubai than read a propaganda piece somewhere, if you don't mind answering.

RJnomore1 · 04/02/2021 20:19

I cannot believe anyone would defend an amoral, corrupt, abusive exploitative country like Dubai. Then again I should t be surprised given the hordes that flock there for the imported through slave labour fake beaches and shopping.

UnityUnited · 04/02/2021 20:20

UAE are offering a vaccine to wealthy tourists.

UnityUnited · 04/02/2021 20:21

They flock there for the tax free lifestyle too. Yuk.

Sammydil · 04/02/2021 20:22

Do you know what, 90% of these comments are hilarious. Yes there are few things wrong with Dubai but my god have they got rather a lot right that the UK lack. I am seeing ridiculous posts about having to be wealthy for a vaccine when only today I've had my vaccine and guess what you really ill informed people ... its free.

This is really upsetting when it comes to this girl and the possibility for her to be going to prison for swearing at obviously a very spiteful human being but I will wait to comment on this properly till I find out the full story . This is because 80% of the stuff I read in the UK Papers about dubai is hilariously untrue or a version of events that just purely didn't happen . I have lived here since I was 24 and I have never felt so safe as a WOMAN . I can walk down the street without fearing for my safety something I never could feel growing up in the UK. the UAE is slowly making more and more progress every day . Did you know we can now live unmarried??? Was that posted over there in the papers? Did they post that now advocating for women rights more etc . Like I said there's so much more to do be done to be deemed comparable to the UK but blooming hell they do a lot right too . Now I'm going to go back to being " smug " while borris makes me want to face plant my head into a wall.

UnityUnited · 04/02/2021 20:27

You need to take a look at Amnesty’s take on human rights in UAE.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 04/02/2021 20:27

Sammydil, well, at least with Boris, you'd have the choice of face-planting your own head into the wall.

Sammydil · 04/02/2021 20:28

I've been out here for 7 years since my early 20s , I've never had a problem with the law . I've been drunk nightly back when I could hold my drink :) I've had dates... I've met my future hubby . I've never felt safer as a woman living over here . I won't lie and say this place is perfect , getting into a predicament like being pregnant wouldn't be wise out here but from what i read , wouldn't be a good idea in the US either . There a certain rules for sure but thats just respect . I can live unmarried with my partner without an problems now . If someone attacked me which is really really rare in a country where such harsh penalties are they would be in serious trouble . If someone has drugs they go to prison... its a litte bit behind but its not what the UK papers try and make it out to be .

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 04/02/2021 20:32

If you do not have the same rights as men then it's not a 'little bit behind', it's dangerous for any woman to live there because... you have precious few rights.

I'm sorry, I didn't meant to be flippant and I get that you enjoy your life in Dubai, I hope you will always feel safe and that you're not serious about a pregnancy being a predicament because that is a horrifying thought.

Thanks for answering, take care.

Sammydil · 04/02/2021 20:33

If you are a dubai resident it is free. Yes the slave labourers can get it if that's what you want to call them . I have talked to many a " slave labourer " and it is horrible I completely agree how much they get paid to be here to build buildings to drive the taxis . Though most have come to make money so it makes me so sad at what things must have been like for them back home to want to come and work for what we would call nothing over here . But I could say that about when I go home to the UK and have multiple homeless on streets begging for money and food . That upsets me too . There's a lot of fundamental problems all over the world . Let's hope that changes sooner rather than later.

UnityUnited · 04/02/2021 20:34

‘A little behind’ Shock

LizzieSiddal · 04/02/2021 20:34

I wouldn’t set foot in Dubai,
I know people who have gone out there to work. They’ve all come back after a couple of years, the only positives seem to be the tax feee salary but the slavery, draconian laws and the way women are treated, take the shine off the salary eventually. Anyone with any morals wouldn’t wish to live there in my opinion.

UnityUnited · 04/02/2021 20:36

You simply can’t possibly square the problem of homelessness in the UK with the fact the UAE is built on modern slavery. I guess the sunshine and cheap handbags for sale in the malls make it worthwhile for some though.

Sammydil · 04/02/2021 20:36

No worries , i have the same rights as a man here . Though of course as in every country it would always depend who you are actually coming up against and what there status is be it woman or man. There's a lot of scare mongering but I rarely here of anything as bad as sexual assault over here it is a rarity . Just like I would leave my new phone and bag on a table and have no harm walking away from it and know it would still be there when I got back .

Sammydil · 04/02/2021 20:37

Cheap handbags ? All of that isn't worth a comment tbh.

Idocaredoyou · 04/02/2021 20:38

Do you legally? If so, do let AI know so they can campaign on something else

ElaineMarieBenes · 04/02/2021 20:38

Well said @Sammydil

I’d also suggest instead of reading nonsense in the Daily Fail, read George Saunders essay ‘The new Mecca’. Also read the daily court reports - I do and have never read anything even vaguely close to the nonsense written on here!

Sorry to further disappoint but the director I report to in work is an Emerati woman (I’m in a senior role too!). I am my DH’s sponsor and as such he can only work if I give my written position (though he has specifically asked I don’t provide this!).
