Microsoft Teams - Help please!

Please can someone help me with Teams to stop me looking like the only parent in the class who doesn't have a clue!!

The school have only started with teams meetings in the last couple of weeks. First of all I logged in via the browser and our microphone wasn't working despite being unmuted etc. Works fine with Zoom.

Anyway I then installed the app on to the laptop, tried this morning and it looked totally different, we could see all the faces like this pic, but there was no bar in the middle to mute / unmute, I was clicking + hovering everywhere I could think of but it wouldn't come up, meaning the teacher had to mute us and then we couldn't unmute.

Please can someone help me, how do I get that bar to appear in the middle?? Thanks

Usually mine is in the top right hand corner, not the bottom middle. Have you checked there when you are on a call ?

Same as the above poster says, mine is also in the top right. It used to appear in the middle like your picture (and I also had to jiggle the mouse to get it to appear) but Teams has since been updated I think and its now at the top.

Yes I tried there and the middle but when I hovered nothing and when I clicked it just asked me if I wanted to pin the person I was clicking on if that makes sense.

I also tried Ctrl + Shift + M but it did nothing.

I've just realised I didn't have menu bars or profile circle like in the shot either, it was just a grid of people with a black border.

By the red leave button in the top right corner is where you can mute / turn off the camera. When you log into the call, double check the settings as sometimes you have to enable it to use your microphone and camera. The pic above is how it used to look, but as others have said, it's been updated.

Also, if you're a guest, you sometimes don't have access to all the functions, like the chat box or raise hand.

Thanks, I'll see what its like in the meeting tomorrow as in the window today there was no leave button, no nothing. Just a grid of people with an X to close the window.
No one else is having issues which makes me feel like a right plonker, but it must be our laptop or something.

Go into settings and do a test call. That way you can try to work out some of the problems when there isn’t so much pressure. N

Thanks - I did a test call, all worked fine.

We joined another call yesterday and the meeting box came up like this (pic attached).
The control box very briefly appeared at the top at the start of the meeting but I couldn't click mute/unmute (Ctrl,shift,M doesn't work either) and then the bar disappeared and absolutely nothing I did would bring it back.
I spent the entire half hour clicking here there and everywhere. I'm so confused!

Can the teacher permanently mute someone by accident or stop them unmuting?

It's driving me insane. I use Zoom and Skype all the time so I feel like I should be able to work it out, but just can't!

Are you logging in on the app or as a guest via Web browser? When I use it for work, people external to my organisation access via the Web.

Yes you can be muted but they can't unmute you. It also looks like you don't have the chat function - it's usually on the right hand side.

When you did the test call what could you see / how was it different, was there someone from the school with you?

Thanks..This was via the app that I downloaded on to the laptop.
No there's no chat function, I wondered if there should be as the teacher had messaged to say she had muted us but I couldn't see that msg until I went back to the main team page.

When we tried to access it via the web browser that's when the microphone wouldn't work at all.

DH did the test, it wasn't a call to anyone as such, just a test of the microphone and once we had the app downloaded the microphone worked and the teacher could hear us but then we have no ability to mute/unmute/leave etc!

I'm quite computer literate but this has got me baffled! I think we'll give the web browser another try and then maybe a different device.
