I only seem to achieve between 1 and 2 hours 'deep sleep and REM' in an average night of 6-9 hours sleep.

How much deep sleep do you manage?

My sleep is very disturbed with quite a few wakings and interruptions with a high score for being restless.

So an average of between 6-9 hours total. How much deep sleep do you manage?

Fitbit have some stuff on their site about this. A small amount of deep sleep is fine, it's normal to have only 1-2 hours I believe. We all cycle through light, REM, deep.

Watches aren't brilliant at tracking real sleep, as they mostly do it through how still you are. Mine once said I was asleep when I was reading in bed!

Mine varies- deep sleep Between 40 minutes (9 hour sleep) and an hour and a half (6 hour sleep) REM sleep between hour and a half and two and a half hours.

Mine gives the average for a person of your age in a percentage. I think it's less than you think.

Mine's about 1hr30mins which is around 15-17% of my sleep time. Apparently 'normal' range for women my age is 12-23%.

Yes same here. If I can't get to sleep but am lying still so as not to disturb DH, it often says that I am asleep.

I am very wary about the sleep results from my fitbit although I am fairly confident about the deep sleep. I have never gone over two hours of deep sleep ever. I do notice the difference the next day if I got 1 hr 40 mins of deep sleep rather than 30 mins. I often wake up at 5am and read in bed. My fitbit registers this as me being asleep.

It astonishes me that people focus on deep sleep.
You don't particularly need deep sleep.
Your brain does need REM sleep.

I happen not to get very much REM & lots of deep.

Recent 4 nights where Fitbit could manage to track at all, I got
40, 78, 61 & 67 minutes deep
60, 72, 105 & 51 REM

Of course you need deep sleep. You would not survive without it. A Fitbit can’t tell you how much you’ve had though.

When I have had a 'good' sleep, I have had at least 1 hour deep sleep (max 1.5 hours) and a minimum of 1.5 hours REM sleep (max 2 hours)

I didn't feel I slept very well and was awake frequently during the night. When I looked at average for my age I am at or below the low range from my age. Since I have discovered that I am actually awake less as (clearly) I am more relaxed about the time I am awake so fall asleep again more readily (most but not all of the time). Mine also shows me asleep when reading or even playing non stressy phone games

Ok, I stand corrected.

I wonder what most people think lack of deep sleep means.
Do they think it's why they are exhausted all day?
I'd love to get a regular 60-90 minutes of deep sleep if that could keeping the dementia away.

I edit my fitbit sleep logs to remove 'false sleeps' and get correct wake up/fell asleep times

I find the more REM the less deep sleep or the more deep the less REM in any single night.
