Severe sore throat

I've developed a severe one sided sore throat which has significantly worsened in the last 24 hours. So much so I barely slept last night and I can't seem to relieve the pain. I have no tonsils so it isn't tonsillitis, the pain feels really high up in my throat.

Any ideas for pain relief that might work and whether its appropriate to see the gp? I don't want to waste their time but equally I've been in significant pain for days.

If you haven’t already, get a Covid test booked. In the mean time, gargling salt water might help ease the pain a bit, as can drinking ice cold water Smile

Just to say the same, get a Covid test, this was my first and main symptom. Hope you feel better soon.

You need to see gp, I've just had tonsillitis and I think gp said it's same bacteria regardless of if you still have tonsillitis .
I know how bad the pain can be as I nearly ended up in hospital as couldn't swallow water never mind antibiotics.

Covid hadn't even entered my head, I will order one or look for a drive through, thank you.

If you can get hold of paracetamol or neurofen with codine I found that helped marginally and strangely enough warm drink went down easier than cold.

You can still get quinsy or a peritonsillar abscess without tonsils. You need to see a GP as soon as possible and if you have a temperature I would maybe even consider urgent care this evening as you may well need IV antibiotics.

Thanks everyone, I didn't realise it could still be quite bad even without tonsils.
