An opportunity has come up to retrain as a sonographer and I'm thinking of applying for it, but could do with some insight from people currently doing the job. What's it like? What do you wish you'd known before starting? Would you recommend it?
If it's relevant, I'm a midwife, the training would be funded and I'd be paid at band 6 to train then it seems a guaranteed job at band 7 on qualifying. Academics aren't an issue, I have done several CPD modules at Masters level. I've obviously worked alongside sonographers but don't have too much knowledge of what the job is actually like day to day, the pressures etc. My main reason for retraining would be some issues which have shaken my confidence at work and so I could do with a fresh start, which I'm aware isn't really the best reason (or at least not one I'd want to share at interview!)
Any advice?
