Gift for midwife

Can any midwives out there comment on a lovely gift they received from a woman in your care or has anyone else got some suggestions?

I had the same lovely midwife for both my pregnancies quite close together. She was a cheerleader for me the whole way through both pregnancies and labours. She spent time getting to know me and my partner and constantly praised what a team we were which really empowered us.

I want to get her a gift as a thank you for being so brilliant. I don't know much about her personally. What could I get to show her how wonderful I think she is and how much I appreciate her midwifery services?

A letter to her manager will mean far more than any box of chocolates. She can use it for her revalidation.

(I'm a nurse rather than a midwife)

Echo PP- I’m a midwife and the cards mean more than anything else, words from the heart.

I sent a card to my midwife after I was discharged. She saw me through 3 pgs and a miscarriage and delivered dc3. I saw her in the doctors surgery a few months later and she actually came up to me and said how lovely it was to have received it. Anyone can send chocs /flowers, But to take the time to write a card to say thank you has a bit more meaning (teacher friends tell me this often).

Another midwife here - a card means the world

With our first my husband took the time to write a letter to the head of midwifery (I think) at the hospital talking about the care we received and naming midwives by name - it was gratefully received. We also gave a big box of chocolate bars from Costco and a big box of pens!

Another midwife here - agree with a lovely card. I’ve kept every card I’ve been given from women, I keep them all in a scrapbook. I know many of my colleagues do the same

I second a town gift (chocs or flowers) but alongside a lovely card or letter that she can appreciate show her boss and also use as evidence for her revalidation. I believe they need 5 pieces of evidence and you’re kind words would go a long way. Letters/cards can be very rare when you’re a nurse

My nesting instinct - over 16 years ago now 🙈 - was to make an absolute fuckton of chocolate rice crispie cakes. DH took them in with us after my waters broke at 1am and they were very well received!

Definitely a card and write her name on it, means so much more and it can be used for revalidation

From a nurse

Cards are lovely. The loveliest gift I ever received as a midwife? I had a baby named after me. Cried my eyes out, I can tell you.

Thank you all looks like it's unanimous I will write a lovely thank you card Smile
