What do you do about cables in your house?

We seem to have nests of them springing up and I can’t seem to find a solution that works well enough for everyone.
My latest attempt was to chuck iPads, chargers and the extension lead into a big wicker hamper basket.

It’s easy enough to hide cables for things that stay still like lamps and TVs but with laptops, iPads and phones there’s always a mess somewhere.

I tried creating a charging drawer but then someone will be sitting on a sofa and their device is running low and gah!

A basket! That’s genius! I’m going to try that now with the mess of cables underneath DH’s desk.

Sorry no ideas for you Sad

I try and run laptop/ phone chargers underneath the sofa. So you can easily pull them out to plug in, and tuck them back under once you're done. It saves them being on display constantly, but also you can get to them pretty easily. It does require having enough cables that you don't have to move them around the house all the time though.

@ClaudiaWankleman I think part of the problem might be that I don’t have quite enough cables.

There's no point fighting the inevitable...

I have a storage vase. It's big, it's beautiful and takes loads. Cables are all labelled.

As for recharging, I have a coffee table between the sofas. A multi plug extension lead lives under there. Anything being charged happens in that corner. Device is either on the table, or person holding a charging device is sat next to it.

I'm now wondering why my vase and charging point are on opposite sides of the room... 🤔

Long chargers behind big furniture. Short chargers behind small furniture. Spare chargers in bags. Power banks. USB plugs. Shelves with USB ports. Plastic baskets to hide wires. Holes in the backs of drawers.

I have 17 chargers, 4 power banks, 3 USB plugs and 13 devices in my house - I honestly couldn't tell you the last time one of them died but it was well over a year ago Smile

Only having one set of plugs in the living room helps Grin and it’s inside the tv unit so gets charged in there out the way.

@thelegohooverer The graph that tracks number of wires to visual appeal is a parabola.

IliveonCoffee · 02/02/2021 19:02

Just to check...all of them still belong to a device you own, and the wire/block still works?

Get rid. One in a set place where you charge daily per device or per person. One 'portable' wire per person. Go get your charger rather than having 101 scattered around in easy reach.

In our house the charging cables miraculously tidy themselves up into the kids bedrooms or simply vanish.
