Inattentive ADHD

My 16yr old is being assessed for inattentive ADHD and will certainly be diagnosed as they tick nearly every box.

Could anyone give me their teens experience of medication and if it helped especially with school work?
Did they go on to complete exams, uni etc? Could they cope with the late teens years and stick with a job?

They are very bright and did great at school with minimal effort but now workload has increased dramatically they can barely see the woods for the trees.
GcSE year and so much work. Home learning is horrendous for them. They just switch off.
Can't organise, no notes, zones out, not handing in assignments even when mostly done. Can't study. I need to sit beside them to get any piece of work completed. Up until recently I thought they were just lazy but now I think they just are overwhelmed and can't begin.

We make timetable after timetable , day after day- they want to do this but can't even complete a days tasks.

They want me there to support them but get annoyed if I am also.
My 7 year old needs less support.

If you child was medicated for inattentive ADHD did it help them focus and complete tasks? It really worries me them taking this strong medication and it messing with their mind even more. I do now my child can't continue like this. Their seems so full but they can't motivate themselves to do anything.
I won't even start on the mess that is their room.
