I'm not made of money so cheaper end of the market ideally, but I'm not entirely sure what to look for.

I'd like to install Libre Office, the printer, and adobe pdf reader on it too.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

you need to look at what minecraft needs to run, it will be on the download page of minecraft and then find a laptop with that spec or higher. the higher the spec you can afford the better. focus on the graphics card and the processor.

Thanks @memememe I'll have a look at what it needs to run in the morning. (It's a bit like a foreign language looking at laptops Confused )

Yes, as memememe says, Minecraft is the major item here. Any low end laptop with a mic and camera will be able to do Teams, but Minecraft needs something a bit beefier. Or even quite a lot beefier. Like doubling the cost beefier, to play it well.

Up in the "maybe it's worth getting an Xbox series S for playing minecraft on" levels.

How old is your child? How much experience do they have of MInecraft? I've been through this with DS. I bought him a basic laptop for school use when he was 10. He also used it to play Minecraft.

Minecraft is less demanding than many computer games but after a year he found that the 4mb RAM wasn't enough and the general use video card was too slow. He also wore out certain keys on the keyboard.

Now two years on, I've had the laptop keyboard repaired so he can still use it for school, and his birthday present was a games PC with a high speed video card and 16mb RAM.

It cost much more and isn't portable but he's not constantly frustrated with it.

Have a look at Chromebooks. They'd do the office based stuff easier and I think you can install Minecraft on them too. (if you like, I'll check in the morning)

A decent tablet and keyboard might be a better option too. I play Minecraft on my tablet and it runs just fine. Iirc it's a Huwei mediapad 10.

Minecraft is a gateway for gaming. Consider nothing less than 16gb ram. He'll want to play other games and you're looking for a bit of longevity.

Get a PC instead of a laptop. You will get a higher spec. For much less.
