Milk warmer and frother - recommendations

Plump82 · 02/02/2021 09:14

I love a frothy coffee and used to use the wee hand held ones but felt they broke too often and eventually gave up.

I quite fancy a milk warmer & frother but not the Nespresso one as its too expensive for the amount of coffee I drink. Im having a look online and there's ones on Amazon for about 40 odd with great reviews but i tend to take amazon reviews with a pinch of salt!

Does anyone have one that cost up to £50 that they would recommend?

My DH bought me the Dualit one for Christmas and it is brilliant. It even froths skimmed milk.

I use a small two cup cafetiere - microwave the milk in the glass jug to heat, put the top in and push the plunger up and down for about 10 seconds. It creates the best foam I've seen since I worked in a coffee shop and had a proper industrial steam arm, and it's very cheap!

What are you doing to the hand-held ones to break them? I have a Frabosk creamer which must be 15 years old and it’s as good as new. We have a Nespresso aeroccino but I often use the Frabosk for preference as it’s stainless steel and just goes in the dishwasher. The aeroccino is fiddly to clean and only heats the milk to a fairly tepid temperature- ideal for children’s drinks but too cool for me.

supercee · 02/02/2021 13:39

I've got a Lavazza. Love it and really easy to clean.

Pootles34 · 02/02/2021 13:42

this is mine from Aldi, matches kettle. Not had it long so can't comment on that. Does the job!

Kottbullar · 02/02/2021 13:44

We have the dualit one, it's great. So much easier to clean than the nespresso.

RubyGoat · 02/02/2021 13:44

Lavazza Milkeasy. Had it a couple of years. Just have to be careful not to splash water over the button when you clean it, otherwise very easy to use & clean. DD was able to use it from the age of 7, which she loved!

FluffyBlueJumper · 02/02/2021 13:57

We got one from Lidl for Christmas. We are very happy with it.

Im meaning a handheld on like this www.lakeland.co.uk/11733/Aerolatte-To-Go-Handheld-Milk-Frother-with-Storage-Tube?gclid=CjwKCAiAjeSABhAPEiwAqfxURWvJRA5AHS8ZptoFo0BVDI8w4KJ2lXFVgjQK-M_rYzQB7bpwB1mpPhoCnrsQAvD_BwE&src=gfeed&s_kwcid=AL!49!3!456457690750!!!g!!&ef_id=CjwKCAiAjeSABhAPEiwAqfxURWvJRA5AHS8ZptoFo0BVDI8w4KJ2lXFVgjQK-M_rYzQB7bpwB1mpPhoCnrsQAvD_BwE:G:s

Ill take a look at the Lavazza ones as well. Although I like the sound of the dualit being easy to clean!
Not concerned about it making milk really hot as i dont like my coffee too hot anyway. I use a cafetiere for my coffee so find by the time it's brewed its cooled and its nice to add the warm milk

That's a great price isn't it. We don't have an aldi near us unfortunately.

i was looking at the aldi one at christmas for DD but it had really bad reviews at the time.
We bought her the Dualit one, and i have a morphy richards but that is no longer made. DD seems pleased with her Dualit.
Oatley do a barista oat milk that froths if you want an alternative milk

We did look at the smeg. it was beautiful but i wasnt going to pay £150 for a milk frother!

Pedallleur · 02/02/2021 14:58

we have the Dualit (was £50). froths/heats, press button twice - hot milk, hold button, chilled milk/liquid. My daughter loves it for hot milk/cocoa with froth!! Also for cappucino drinks

umpteennamechanges · 02/02/2021 15:02

I use the Hotel Chocolat velvetiser - originally bought to make awesome hot chocolate but also warms and froths milk for coffee.

They’re fab but they’re even more expensive than the Aeroccino!
Plump82 · 02/02/2021 16:10

I don't think my budget would stretch to a velvetiser! And it would make me want creamy delicious hot chocolate all the time!!

Got one from Lidl, £25 ish. It's great.

Two choices of foam density, or no foam.
It's been a revelation.

Handsnotwands · 02/02/2021 16:57

the lavazza (sp?) one is fab

TooManyButtons · 02/02/2021 17:57

I've just this afternoon taken delivery of this one www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07M5JLX2H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_6QMA6XAR1FQ7CJY2E1A6?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21 although I paid £32 for it. First impressions are very good, I've just made a lovely latte macchiato, although not sure drinking a double espresso at this time was a good idea Grin

picklemewalnuts · 02/02/2021 18:10

I make mine with instant decaf. It's just so easy...

Georgieporgie29 · 02/02/2021 19:05

Thank you @SassenachWitch I’ve just ordered one on your recommendation

RubyGoat · 06/02/2021 10:15

I tried making hot chocolate in our Lavazza milk warmer last night. With (homemade) grated chocolate. Very nice, smooth & delicious. I was eyeing up the Hotel Chocolat version, but I won't bother now.
