Romantic break recommendations (UK)

It’s my 30th birthday in a couple of months. Original plan was a weekend abroad somewhere, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we may be able to do a UK break by then at least. It’ll just be the two of us.

Can anyone recommend a really peaceful and romantic hotel/cottage/lodge (we’re not too fussy)? We’re in the North West and can drive/train but ideally not looking to travel for hours, maybe 3 hours max.

I’ve been looking at a few spa hotels including The Gilpin in the Lakes, Rudding Park in Harrogate and Carden Park in Chester, but would love some more suggestions. I really want to find somewhere special and would love some recommendations.

It's my 30th next year, so I may have a look at some of the ideas!

The spa rooms at the mount pleasant hotel near doncaster are incredible. Quite pricey but we've had a couple of amazing weekends there.

The Samling has an amazing hot tub www.thesamlinghotel.co.uk/lake-district-hotels-hot-tub/

The Impeccable Pig in Co. Durham and Burnside in the Lakes are also worth a look.

Hi my husband is 30 this year and we were also hope to go abroad but think we might try and get a few days away in Cornwall.

Carden Park I have been to and is fantastic, they have also just opened a new fancy spa which I've been told is amazing!

Stoop Farm just outside of Buxton is lovely, it is very remote (i could barely get phone signal) but is so so peaceful and there are sheep everywhere. There is a hot tub which was fab and has amazing views of the rolling hills. Nearby town of Buxton too for shops and amenities/restaurants.
Omg i want to go back!

Ox Pasture Hall Hotel, North Yorkshire Moors- fabulous location and lovely hotel

There are some amazing deals on London hotels until July - it’s a very good chance to get 5* London for around £130/night. I saw quite a few options on Secret Escapes with deals stretching out until July

EllenBorough Park in Cheltenham is lovely, and has a heated outdoor pool. Lovely local walks and relaxed atmosphere

The garden suites at the gilpin are very nice we also like the fish and other hotels on the farmcombe estate.

Portmeirion in north Wales is lovely- expensive though.

You could look at therectoryhotel.com/ or www.barnsleyhouse.com/

Also Llanerch vineyard just outside Cardiff: llanerch.co.uk/vineyard

redsquirrelfan · 01/02/2021 18:13

(the first two are in the Cotswolds within easy reach of Cirencester)

Lumley castle near Durham - choose a room in main building, not the coach house.
Hotel du vin York, some lovely rooms, all are different so enquire by phone rather than an online booking

Hi OP, we've been to Carden Park a few times, although with DC the last few times. We were there last February and the new spa had just opened. We couldn't use it as it's over 18's only, but it looked amazing. We really like it there.
The last place DH and I went on our own (for an anniversary) was Low Wood Bay near Windermere/Ambleside. That was really lovely. Fab spa with outdoor pool and hot tubs and a sauna with great views over the lake. We also liked the Blue Smoke restaurant as it was quite relaxed as we aren't fancy at all!

tinierclanger · 01/02/2021 19:28

If it doesn’t have to be a spa place, I recommend Hipping Hall, Holbeck Ghyll (both as featured in The Trip!) or yes another vote for Portmeirion. All lovely.
