Films like Independence Day

Are there any other films like (older) Star Wars or Independence Day that people can suggest? My 9 year old hates films but really likes these!

I think its the spacecraft or planes. Independence Day manages to include space ships AND fighter planes! Not really disaster movies. It is just nice to be able to watch something as a family and not have him watching hours of American brats doing 'pranks' on youtube.
