Anyone want to join me for a February reset?

Been struggling a bit the last few weeks - tired (nearly 8 months pregnant so understandable but not helped by staying awake on my phone when it would be sensible to get more sleep) and generally being a bit lazy with everything (including work and doing interesting things with DS) but not really enjoying my free time either (spending too much of it getting over invested in arguments on AIBU or playing the same game on my phone and not even properly watching TV programmes I've put on). Basically could do with being physically and mentally healthier and being in a better place for when DD arrives in March.

New month seemed like a reasonable time to start, but I'm not sure about realistic goals. I know there's no point trying to change everything and a couple of good habits would be a start. But tempted to try and do loads of things differently. Anyone want to join me, make a plan and keep each other company?

I'm in! I'm staring healthy eating! Also going to try to get dressed everyday, at the moment I'll only get dressed on work days the days I'm at home I lounge in pjs all day! I think I would feel better for just getting dressed and making an effort! Also going to try for less screen time which will hopefully let me sleep better! X

MisgenderedSwan · 01/02/2021 08:13

This week I'm aiming to drink more water and walk 10,000 steps a day. If I can do that all week then next week I will add another goal. How about aiming to be outside 1 hour per day? Aiming to leave phone in kitchen on charge on an evening?

I also bought a new book and am determined to finish it, something which I haven't been great at since having dc.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/02/2021 08:19

I've decided to play Pokemon Go every day as a way to get out of the house.

I was supposed to have done RED January, and have successfully done it in the 3 previous years, but Borris Johnson crushed my struggling willpower on 4th Jan.

So no big goal, a bit of Pokemoning to get me out each day now the days are stretching out again.

Bog I got into Pokémon go in August and it’s definitely helped! I’m not really a “walking for the sake of it” person (no car and getting extremely bored with the same scenery) so it’s really helped give me some direction - literally :o let me know if you want to add another friend :o

I’m definitely up for this pretty - I quite like the fact it’s exactly four weeks and starting on a Monday :o but I’ve no clue what to actually do. I’m feeling horrifically unmotivated ATM, self isolating waiting for DH’s covid test, he’s quite unwell so I’m really anxious and overwhelmed. But I’d like to think of something I can try and do daily and maybe track in my bullet journal that I started this year.

JMAngel1 · 01/02/2021 08:51

Me please.
I need to get back to my daily to do list.
So today, I will
Drink 1 litre water
No overt sugar
Carb only at evening meal
No wine ( just drank 3 nights in a row - not good)
2 hours of coursework
Put away 4 baskets of laundry
Be patient with home schooling - can sense my youngest is going to have a meltdown today
20 minute Pilates
Face mask tonight - skin is lacklustre
Cook from scratch tonight
Go for a walk in woods with DD s - good welly squelch

That's enough - still sat on sofa so better move my butt Grin

WillYouDoTheFandango · 01/02/2021 08:52

This is a great idea OP. I need to reset my phone use. You’ve inspired me to start today. DP gets up for work 2 hours before me so falls asleep early and easily. I just lie there on my phone and then can’t sleep til 1am.

I also need to start walking/running again. I was very fit at the start of the year but got an ear infection that affected my balance and I’ve barely moved for 3 weeks. I’m now better though and need to get back to it. I have a Fitbit challenge with workmates to motivate me.

I restarted keto 2 weeks ago so just need to keep going with that as I’m over the worst of the side effects now.

SingToTheSky · 01/02/2021 09:13

I just wrote a list of habits that I could try and focus on for this month but I deleted it. Most of the habits are in my bullet journal already in one way or another (eg I have trackers for reading and exercise etc) and I know I will crumble under the pressure if I add more.

So I’ve decided that (while I will still try and do better on my other trackers) my official 28 day challenge will be to draw every day. I have barely bothered since the first lockdown which is silly as it makes me happy. I’m not going to do prompts (like Inktober) this time as they can take a while - I’m going to draw a 4x7 grid on a sketchbook page and just draw something in one square a day. Hopefully if I do something observational and focused it will sort of double up as mindfulness too.

Chocolatecake29 · 01/02/2021 09:21

I'm in. Mine are small things.
So aims for today:
2 litres of water (I've been so bad with water over the last few months)
Less time on phone
Get the family out for a walk over DHs lunch break
A good yoga session once kids are in bed, particularly for my hips and hamstrings as feeling tight/tense there at the moment
Read a chapter of my book
File my nails

wonderstuff · 01/02/2021 09:31

I'm in, I need a kick up the bum, with everything going on I've really been getting into bad habits and neglecting myself.
I need to cut down on wine - 1 or no glasses in the week.
Exercise - I've gone from not terribly fit to really unfit over the last year, I think a daily walk or run would be good

Cut my phone habit, I'm dicking about on Twitter or stupid games and I don't even know why. So many better things to do.

Take my adhd meds, because I'm drinking and not exercising I'm not taking them, which is daft. 9:30 now, think I'm just about early enough (they're 12 hour release).

I'm seriously behind on work and university study, if I do the above I'm more likely to get back on top.

wonderstuff · 01/02/2021 10:01

Failed to take meds, haven't had breakfast yet, have just opened my computer, it's not going brilliantly so far Confused

peaceanddove · 01/02/2021 10:44

Yes, please. January just dragged by in a blur of eating too much junk, barely any water (am a coffee junkie) and zero exercise. I need to get my shit together because I have an appointment with a consultant to discuss having a tummy tuck in 2 weeks, and I want to lose 7lbs!

So far today I have drunk a portion of kefir, one coffee (mixed with collagen powder) and a good multi vitamin. I wanted to follow a yoga class on YouTube today, but had my vaccine at the weekend and it's left me feeling rough and headaches Sad

onemorerose · 01/02/2021 10:50

I’m in!
Aims are
Walk 70k each week minimum
No wine until the weekend
Get dressed in the morning
Doing something positive with my appearance
Get my children up in the morning
Stop procrastinating
Use my journal
Read more

Orangeblossom1977 · 01/02/2021 11:10

Good plan

Here's mine-
Eat healthy 3 meals a day, snack on fruit and veg (instead of biscuits)
Less drinking, only weekends 2 glasses wine max per evening.
Dark choc only and small amounts
Walk every day- to get outside
Read more and less screen time

prettygirlincrimsonrose · 01/02/2021 12:12

Great to have some company.

I left my phone downstairs last night so I went to sleep quicker and I'm trying to limit using it/browsing on my desktop to set breaks.
Also started the day with water rather than tea, which I'm going to try and stick to.

@steph2412 I'm sure if I didn't have to take DS to nursery three mornings a week, I'd get dressed less - weekends it all gets very lazy!

@MisgenderedSwan I like those aims - think I might need to steal. Being outside for an hour happens automatically if I walk DS to nursery, but other days it can be easy to put off going out and suddenly find it hasn't happened. Since having DS I find it easier to read on my kindle/kindle app - can snatch a few minutes here and there and books get read. But I might try giving myself a bit of time in the evening to read an actual book and get away from screens.

@BogRollBOGOF What's RED January? Good luck with Pokemon GO, have fond memories of playing that in the park a few years ago and spotting all the other people doing the same thing!

@SingToTheSky Daily drawing sounds like a great idea, it must be tough not knowing about DH and making time to do something for yourself will hopefully help, at least a bit.

@JMAngel1 Wow that's an impressive list - has having a daily list worked for you before?

@WillYouDoTheFandango Always glad to inspire! And agree, it's so easy to slip into browsing and doom scrolling for hours. Good luck with your Fitbit challenge.

@Chocolatecake29 I like that list (and thank you for reminding me to look into some sort of yoga, last pregnancy went to a weekly class, but I've been rubbish this time at doing exercises at home) And what are you reading at the moment (always looking for inspiration)?

@wonderstuff have you seen that thread about lacking motivation? I think so many of us are struggling with getting behind with work stuff. I set myself a timer this morning to work on a set task, and actually got it done - so I think another thing I'm going to try is doing more focused chunks of time.

prettygirlincrimsonrose · 01/02/2021 12:57

@peaceanddove sorry you're feeling rubbish, but always good to hear about people getting their vaccines. Hope the headache disappears soon.

@onemorerose sounds good, hope today goes well. What are you thinking about doing with your appearance?

@Orangeblossom1977 hope that all goes well today. I know I'm finding it really easy to mindlessly eat lots of chocolate at the moment and not really appreciating it - something else to think about.

OP posts:
peaceanddove · 01/02/2021 15:41

Thank you. Feeling better already, but still haven't attempted any YouTube yoga. Only had fruit and rice cakes for lunch though Smile

Attention · 01/02/2021 16:03

I’m in!
Will be back later with my plan. Nothing like starting off with a bit of procrastination Wink

JMAngel1 · 01/02/2021 16:28

Yes I find a list motivating and focuses my mind. Otherwise I’ll just end up on my phone all day.
Most things ticked off - just got to make dinner and give girls a shower/hair wash. Will do a face mask whilst in the bathroom with them.

Trillo · 01/02/2021 17:00

I’m in.

I’ve put on a stone in lockdown and as I’m short you can really see it. I’m CEV but I’ve got a bike, weights, and a garden - I’ve no excuse for letting myself go like this.

Also really need to unfuck my house. I’m drowning in clutter and laundry.

citygirlinwellies · 01/02/2021 17:36

I'm in too. I need to drink more water, remember to take vitamin D every day. I also want to take a multi vitamin and a Spatone sachet daily. Do 10k steps a day, at the moment I struggle to do 5k. And go to bed earlier!

Pizzafortwo · 01/02/2021 18:15

Yes please.

Eat better
Exercise more and use phone less
Washing, dressing every day!
Work smarter
Sort out finances

Went for 10 min walk today. Got to do some work now so that is not ideal, but got to start somewhere. Glad to have a motivational thread.

Pizzafortwo · 01/02/2021 18:19

For this week

Put the dishes away as I go

Crocky · 01/02/2021 18:24

Can I join? I am another that usually does red January but this year couldn’t even face starting.
After 30 years of doing no exercise about three years ago I started running three times a week then added yoga and last January added weights. Apart from breaking my wrist last February I was doing reasonably well with it all. From September it dwindled until beginning of December I stopped doing anything and barely left the house.
Today I ran 3k. It wasn’t pretty and was extremely slow but it’s a start.

VioletCharlotte · 01/02/2021 18:33

Yep count me in. I actually started last week so I have a bit of a head start. I normally begin in January but just couldn't face it this year.

I've started Couch to 5k and just finished week one. Im also doing HIIT workouts three times a week. I'm feeling so much better after just a week.

I also need to crack on with some of the jobs around the house that I've been putting off. Goal for February is to paint the bathroom the bathroom.

Trillo · 02/02/2021 09:42

Yesterday didn’t get off to a brilliant start. I was tired and didn’t sleep well.

The “extra” things I did do were take the vitamins I always forget to take, facetime a friend instead of just exchanging Whatsapp memes, and floss. Go me.
