So its looking like my DD birthday will be in lockdown so I thought I would do a little afternoon tea to celebrate. Looking for inspiration of some treats from M&S. Colin the caterpillar already requested by DD. Thinking about sandwich fillers, cakes, crisps, cold meat, sausage rolls etc.
What do you recommend?

Cheese tasters.

The little cheese and onion muffin bites

I believe there is a whole Percy pig range of buns etc. How old is dd going to be?

MackenCheese · 31/01/2021 14:23

Jumping on for ideas too. My DD turns 12 in 2 weeks!

I got some mini summer fruit meringue tarts (£3) and baklava (£4) for my birthday tomorrow also they do 3 packs of fancy savoury food for £7 (mini muffins etc) maybe a bit grown up but they do look the sort of thing you would get at a posh afternoon tea which the 12 year old might like. Not cheap but we are not having the usual meal out so sod it.

Roystonv · 31/01/2021 14:32

Ooh just seen she will be 14 so might suit.

StillGoingToWork · 31/01/2021 14:34

Love their sausage rolls and empañadas. Try their elderflower cordial too.

WorraLiberty · 31/01/2021 14:35

What does she want?

Why not show her the M&S website and let her choose?

Sounds like a lovely idea by the way

HiveQueen · 31/01/2021 14:38

@user9086789 my DD just turned 14 and requested Colin the Caterpillar cake too. They do nice picnic food like chicken and chorizo empanadas. I can’t think off the top of my head what others things we get from there for a buffet tea.

BrieAndChilli · 31/01/2021 14:40

They do a pack of little assorted mini bread rolls - they look cute with favourite fillings in eg ham/cheese/egg Mayo or whatever

AlwaysCheddar · 31/01/2021 14:45

The chocolate cream, strawberry cream, strawberries and meringues

ParkheadParadise · 31/01/2021 14:48

Mini hamburgers
Percy pigs ( my favourite)
Salt n Vinegar chipsticks
Chocolate chip cookies

Mini Victoria sponges x 4 in a box are nice, "afternoon tea feel". I also like their sundae tarts, prefer the blueberry to strawberry myself, maybe too much cake though. 4 x individual pork pies but topped with pickle instead of pastry for savoury, very tasty, £2.50a box. The deli/tapas range is usually 3 for £7. If enough time pick up a leaflet, probably all online, for prepared food like platters. Just finished off lobster mac and cheese mini pots from their xmas party food range, probably not available now but worth looking at chilled/frozen range depending what cuisine she likes. Happy birthday to your daughter. I had a takeaway roast dinner for mine last week.

HuckfromScandal · 31/01/2021 15:31

I know that you’ve said M&S
But there are loads of local companies in my area delivering afternoons teas, which can be

  • really good value
  • make her feel like a proper grown up
  • support a local business

And then get a Colin the caterpillar, coz in my house, it’s not a birthday without one!

MindfulBitch · 31/01/2021 15:44

You should get some chocolate and caramel hot cross buns, they are gorgeous.

Xmasbaby11 · 31/01/2021 15:48

Macarons for sure! They are delicious, look gorgeous and a real treat.

lurker101 · 31/01/2021 15:56

We love their cheese wrapped in different ham or chorizo from the deli range, they have quite a few options (some mildly spicy, some not, all delicious) their little mozzarella balls in pesto are lovely too.
Their gastropub sticky toffee pudding is also lovely with the Madagascan vanilla custard

AtleastitsnotMonday · 31/01/2021 16:32

Bacon tortilla rolls! (Crisps) they’re devine.

SummerHouse · 31/01/2021 16:35

The selection box of chocolate chip cookies are the best I've ever had.

JovialNickname · 31/01/2021 23:39

Why don't you let your 14 y.o. choose? Might be a nice thing for her to do for a lockdown birthday. X
