Protecting eyes against screens

Is there anything I should be doing to protect myself and my family against spending all day looking at screens? What's everyone else doing? I genuinely think my eyesight has deteriorated even since the summer.

Not having multiple hours a day on average outdoors during the daytime looking at things which are further away is highly correlated with the development of myopia in children. If it's screens stopping you doing that or just staring at a wall doesn't seem to matter much.

So the protective thing for your eyesight, is to get outside - so exercising right now (which protects other things too!)

It's possible that if you can get a good amount of light and can see longer distances out of a window then spending regular breaks looking out of a window to the distance will have some of the same benefits but this is theorised rather than well evidenced in research.

There's very little evidence for screens themselves harming eyesight distinct from other close activity.

Make appointment at optician for an eye test
