Potential decorator and sexist text

randomer · 30/01/2021 19:57

A person we were considering emplying has ( accidently I assume) sent an offesnsive, sexist text. Makes me sick tbh.

When I say "considering employing" it makes me sound like a millionaire.
I am heartily sick of the whole thing , trying to deal with tradespeople.

What does it say??

purplepandas · 30/01/2021 20:06

I had a similar issue but it was all over their Facebook page. Despite being the cheapest by far, I did not employ them. I just felt it was grim and made me feel horrible about it all.

Chewbecca · 30/01/2021 20:07

What did it say?

RubyGoat · 30/01/2021 20:07

How offensive/sexist? Was it aggressive, degrading, insulting? Something someone might jokingly say to their GF but no-one else? Could it be a typo?

rawalpindithelabrador · 30/01/2021 20:07

Just don't hire them then.

IM0GEN · 30/01/2021 20:09

I’d look for a female decorator.

LunaHeather · 30/01/2021 20:09

Have you met them?

There will be consummate professionals around with abhorrent views from yours or my perspective, but we just wouldn't know.

Ginfordinner · 30/01/2021 20:10

What did it say?

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 30/01/2021 20:20

Dont employ him then. Surely its as simple as that?

randomer · 30/01/2021 20:33

I have met the person and felt he was acceptable. This is part of a massive irritation about getting people to do work.

You are quite right @LunaHeather, we don't know how people really are.

Somebody in my space for a week or weeks who is sexist or racist infuriates me really.

NiceGerbil · 30/01/2021 20:35

Don't hire him.

BeautifulSofa · 30/01/2021 20:35

Need to know what he said Confused

covetingthepreciousthings · 30/01/2021 20:36

Are you going to tell us what he said or leave us to guess...?

randomer · 30/01/2021 20:39

Sorry, I mistaken when I said text. It was a picture, low level stuff , woman big boobs. It makes me sick tbh.

BeanieB2020 · 30/01/2021 20:40

What was the sexist text? If it was something about needing your DH's approval on decorating decisions, while that is a sexist thing on the surface, it's not uncommon for contractors to need the approval of every adult in the home to approve before decisions are finalised.

peboh · 30/01/2021 20:42

Was the picture of you? Or something he was sending his friend?
What he does on his personal time really doesn't affect his ability to do his job.
Also why does consider employing make you sound like a millionaire?! Hmm

randomer · 30/01/2021 20:56

I just felt the terminology "employing" sounded a bit grand.

It was a stupid sexist picture of a woman with big tits.
I am feeling sensitive and I absolutley understand why people choose to live in shabby homes and not have to deal with these idiots.

I live alone

As I say, I can't know what goes in people's heads but I wouldn't want to be home alone with that guy, I think. I'm sure a lot of people would say "most men do that" though.

I would employ a woman when possible but it's not always possible.

Did you alert him to the fact that he'd sent it to you?

I avoid work in the flat partly for cost and disruption but I can see this would be an added irritation.

barskits · 30/01/2021 21:07

Why in the wide world did he send it to you anyway?

quarentini · 30/01/2021 21:11

What was the MeMe ??

Ginfordinner · 30/01/2021 21:47

So you decided to have someone decorate your house, and he sent you an image of a woman with big boobs? Why would he do that?

If this did happen, I wouldn't be employing him either.

Thatwentbadly · 30/01/2021 21:50

Do you mean employ as they will have contract, sick pay, holidays and you will make pension contributions or do you mean hire to do a job?

NiceGerbil · 30/01/2021 21:52

She'll mean hire to do a job I'm sure.

OP just cancel.

Look for a female decorator :)

Noidea2114 · 30/01/2021 21:58

You never know what any person is like. If you feel uncomfortable don't employ him.
A number of years ago we had someone in to decorate who was recommended by a very good friend.
He was left alone in the house while we were at work. My mil called to bring something and found him looking
through my Dhs underwear drawer. We got rid him pretty dam quick.
2 months later it was in the local paper he had been arrested for importuning.
