What exercise do you do, and how do you fit it into your day?

Just curious about the range of activities people enjoy, and how they fit around their typical schedule. I'm really missing my yoga studio at the moment - can't wait to get back there at first available opportunity! I'd also really like to run a 10k this year, but am pretty shit at running so don't know if that is too ambitious.

I'm job hunting right now and wondering if I'll have the energy to exercise once I'm working. Especially early on when it's new and exhausting, plus I am chronically ill.

How does being active fit into your lifestyle?

I try to do an hour Les Mills a day. I finish work at 4pm and tend to work out at around 6pm.

I'll do 2 x cardio, 3 x strength and 1 "combi" day a week.

PaddyF0dder · 29/01/2021 22:49

45 mins of spin early in the morning, starting around 0600.

20 mins yoga in my office at lunch time.

Running at the weekend, whenever suits.

SunshineCake · 29/01/2021 22:49

I go running for 40-60 minutes first thing then walk the dog for an hour to an hour and a half. Sometimes I use the exercise bike too and that is anytime I feel like it but I always run first thing.

That’s impressive.

I do old school step for 20 minutes on Monday, Tuesday an hour Pilates, Thursday Body Coach and another type of class or 30 mins exercise bike Saturday. Plus I walk the dog for an hour every day.

I do short sessions of exercise use so easy to fit in.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 29/01/2021 23:00

yoga, half hour on a work day hour at the weekend. Walk lots.

Straight on the mat when I get home.

MsTSwift · 29/01/2021 23:05

1 hour turbo biking everyday and weights afterwards do first thing then shower and get on with my day. If I don’t do it first thing I don’t do it

CMOTDibbler · 29/01/2021 23:06

At the moment, I have a 30 min fast walk at lunchtime, and a 20 min HITT dvd session in the evening. At the weekend I do more, and ideally I'd run in the week, but I need to be on screen and respectable in the afternoon and shoehorn the walk in. I hate running in the dark as I stress about falling over as the pavement is so bad

DialsMavis · 29/01/2021 23:10

I run about 5 times per week, either before work or lunchtime, but I wfh at the moment and just stay sweaty and gross if required, couldn't if I was in office. I do weights at home 3 times per week and try and fit in a walk to get up to 10,000 steps. At the weekend we try and do longer walks or bike rides. When in the office I cycle to and from work, and squeeze in the weights and a couple of runs per week. That makes me. Sound quite active and fit but I don't feel or look it particularly

lastqueenofscotland · 29/01/2021 23:14

I run every day (an absolute slave to the run streak) I just make time.
When I was in the office I ran to work, today I ran in my lunch break, ran in the late evening with head torches.
It isn’t always convenient but I love beer but hate a beer belly so

Labobo · 29/01/2021 23:20

walk for 45 mins to a hour after lunch most days.
Online bootcamp 2 evenings and 2 mornings a week. The evening ones are quite late so the only issue is getting too hungry as I don't like to eat beforehand. One morning one is at the weeknd, so fine but I have to get up early for it. The other is mid morning midweek, which is a faff but I set my own work hours, so just work before and after it catching up on admin etc as it breaks the morning up too much.

Pipandmum · 29/01/2021 23:26

Can you do online yoga? I do pilates online.
You fit it in because you make it a priority. I used to get to the gym before work, if I didn't have time, on the way home. A friend ran at lunchtime.

ColourMeExhausted · 29/01/2021 23:43

HIIT 40 min work out 3/4 times a week, first thing. Run at weekends, but now that the schools/nursery are shut and small DC here all the time, plus trying to wfh, I have less time. I would do more if I could, really missing being in the office and exercising in my lunch hour. Some posters are doing loads, I'm so envious! Usually tend to be on my feet a lot and do walks and bike rides with the DC so often reach 20,000 steps per day.

cluecu · 30/01/2021 07:43

I am working from home, no children so I go a run or do a hiit workout/weights in my lunch hour. Then usually a longer run either Saturday or Sunday.

I started this last March and 5k was my initial goal however I am not at the half marathon stage, hoping to get to marathon level gradually. The exercise has absolutely kept me sane and I actually look forward to doing it now Shock

chutneypig · 30/01/2021 07:52

I generally run a couple of times a week before work, lunchtime if I have to and then twice at the weekend. Yoga usually 4-5 times a week in the evening. Usually do a couple of strength sessions, Les Mills on the weekday mornings I’m not running. I’m not doing so much running at the moment with lockdown and am really feeling it, coupled with generally less movement WFH.

I aim to get it done in the morning, the chance of me doing it fades throughout the day.

garlictwist · 30/01/2021 07:58

I have a spin bike I bought off ebay so do that in the morning or go for a run instead. I usually walk around an hour a day too. When I worked I got up at 5am to do it before work and walked to and from work as my commute. Now I'm wfh I do it at 630 which is a much more human time of day.

Corkina · 30/01/2021 08:00

For those that spin, do you spin every day. I bought a bike and it's so addictive. Love it. Also walk.

jendifer · 30/01/2021 08:03

Peloton classes every day - either yoga, Pilates or strength. I walk or run about 5k most days, wirh a longer 10k walk at the weekends.
I do aerial silks so have that set up in the garage sometimes too

Tiggles · 30/01/2021 08:03

At the moment when the boys finish school at 3:30 we go out for a 2-3 mile power walk, because it is the easiest way of assuring they get some long exercise every day.

But in non Covid times we do karate classes. So we got up at 6:30 every day to do a 20min workout and practice our karate.

InvincibleInvisibility · 30/01/2021 08:08

I do shred twice a week very early before everyone else gets up. And i swim for an hour Saturday and an hour Sunday whilst DH looks after DC (Im allowed atm with a medical prescription).

In normal times I also walk loads to get to and from work plus we go cycling lots with the DC, but not so easy atm.

I find that my exercise, like DH's needs to be planned into the family routine. Can't leave it to chance "if I get a moment". We make time and reserve the time.

sHREDDIES19 · 30/01/2021 08:08

Weather permitting a run or else I have a 10kg kettlebell at home so will do a kettlebell session. Really burns the calories adding weight to your workouts.

drspouse · 30/01/2021 08:11

Yoga either before everyone else gets up (Adriene on YouTube) or some days I have an afternoon off. Walking, after the DCs are in bed if not before, try to get in a long walk one weekend day and a bike ride the other. I can't do aerobic type videos, or run, because of a hip injury.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 30/01/2021 08:11

Work until 3, either workout before or after evening meal. I do a daily workout with Team Body Project, and will do a Rick Bhuller walking workout too if my steps are under 10k. I also cycle 10 miles three days a week too.

Peanutbutterblood · 30/01/2021 08:16

I run 3 times a week, currently trying to up my runs to 10km. Atm i run at lunchtime when my dh is home to have his lunch and watch the dc. I'd rather be up at 630am running but it's to icy here at that time right now

Other days I do a 30min step workout after dd1 has done her school work so about 11am

Cloudhopping · 30/01/2021 08:19

Oh my goodness, people do so much exercise! Are you all young, toned, goddesses? I’m 49, work 4 days a week and struggling with energy levels. I’m not overweight but am definitely more flabby and bigger than I used to be. I thought I was doing well with my one hour of HIIT, one hour of yoga and daily dog walks but you lot put me to shame!

Cloudhopping · 30/01/2021 08:20

That’s one hour of HIIT and yoga per week, not per day!
