What exercise do you do, and how do you fit it into your day?

Just curious about the range of activities people enjoy, and how they fit around their typical schedule. I'm really missing my yoga studio at the moment - can't wait to get back there at first available opportunity! I'd also really like to run a 10k this year, but am pretty shit at running so don't know if that is too ambitious.

I'm job hunting right now and wondering if I'll have the energy to exercise once I'm working. Especially early on when it's new and exhausting, plus I am chronically ill.

How does being active fit into your lifestyle?

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa

Work until 3, either workout before or after evening meal. I do a daily workout with Team Body Project, and will do a Rick Bhuller walking workout too if my steps are under 10k. I also cycle 10 miles three days a week too.
I'm with team body project too! I love it and do at least 30 minutes a day non negotiable.

You just have to commit to doing it no matter what.

I do 30 mins weights (usually Les Mills) on my lunch break and either a 5k or 30mins to an hr on the spin bike on my working days. I try to do a long run on a Sunday morning and used to do a bike ride with my club on Saturday but now it tends to be a shorter run with the kids on their bikes due to lockdown. I’m mid thirties and in good shape but struggling with the lack of movement and eating far too much over lockdown. Exercise is ingrained in my routine but I really need to sort my diet out.

I'm going to have to motivate myself to do it at 5.30am aren't I?

Not sure if this is motivating for anyone else but me, but I used to wistfully think to myself that I wished I was the kind of person who just went out to the gym first thing in the morning - as if that was some special breed of human. It came as a dumb realisation to me at some point that literally the only thing needed to be "that kind of a person" was to ... get my arse out to the gym in the mornings!

I think exercise is a self-feeding habit, though. I used to be really puzzled by people who claimed to feel better from doing it, because my own experience was always just uncomfortable and various degrees of miserable, with no endorphins in sight. But once I got a bit more fit and was able to do cardio for longer periods, the feel good things started to appear. Now I get really restless if I'm sick or sore and have to rest. I'm not saying I feel super motivated every day, or love every minute of being sweaty and pushing myself (ew, I don't), but I know I'll feel great afterwards, and the habit gets me doing it rather than relying on willpower.

I’m a cyclist so try and do an outdoor ride at the weekend then use my indoor turbo trainer (indoor exercise bike) during the week. I tend to do it in the evenings after DC in bed.
Normally manage to cycle approx 50 miles a week despite working FT and having a little one

MrsSimonBasset · 30/01/2021 09:41

Doing couch to 5k so I run 3 times a week. It fits in really well around family life and I run on my own schedule.

MrsDThomas · 30/01/2021 10:05

20 minutes HIIT, walking, running, weights.

Dont do the same thing each day as i get bored.

Hippywannabe · 30/01/2021 10:37

I do Alexandra Cane's Happy Body plan. It has 50% off at the moment so I signed up for the full package but you can just buy smaller ones. There are short HILT workouts, a higher intensity summer shred, low intensity ones too.
It is the first time I have ever stuck at it for so long. I think I am week 5 now. I am doing the 90 day shred so the workouts are 10 minutes long. I keep telling myself that I can do 600 seconds!
I am older than most of the girls in the fb group but they are so supportive. I did an Instagram as well for support. (I don't think we are allowed to share those on here but I am happy to pm it. )
I really would recommend it.

I do 30-40 mins of an online workout that combines lifting weights and HIIT. I do it 4 times a week.

I used to be an evening workout person but now I've got a toddler and a newborn its better to get it done first thing in the morning. So usually a 7am workout for me.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 30/01/2021 11:12

Yoga, Pilates, Zumba and dance. Something every week day, usually two classes a day, plus a walk.

moanieleminx · 30/01/2021 13:19

I do cold water swimming every morning and then cycle to work (10k a day). I have to exercise first thing, by the evening I am only interested in Slobbing out....

I want to do C25K next

A lot of walking (often to get places), some cycling (to get places), some running (when cycling too cold & walking too dull). Gardening, DIY. It's about 2 hrs on an average day, but today will be almost 4 hrs (mostly walking).

Would like to kayak or swim but winter & Lockdown.

Would rather stick pins in eyeballs than do a 'work out'. I guess l'll have to resort to calesthenics if we get forced to quarantine. And shedloads of DIY, redecorating & gardening.

PaddyF0dder · 31/01/2021 10:28

Absolutely the best thing we’ve done for exercise is getting a peloton. It’s a shame they’re so expensive. Having a better-than-gym quality machine in your house, along with all those classes, means it’s so easy to find the time.

If you can’t afford the bike, the app subscription is still really worth the money. Really like peloton yoga.

Likio · 31/01/2021 10:33

I do it first thing in the morning when I get up so either 5:30 or 6. I will either do weights, running or an exercise video.

OhioOhioOhio · 31/01/2021 10:45

Walking as much as I can.

ScrapThatThen · 31/01/2021 10:55

Well, I am currently managing a pittance of steps and getting bouts of fatigue that stop me doing anything. But I do try to keep up an exercise habit at least every other day. Evenings are best for me on weekdays, I'm refreshed and ready to do it by about seven. Then weekend mornings after a lie in. At the moment I am trying a Les Mills challenge (step, bike, pump, dance). Previously I was running 10k every Saturday and I will get back to this soon I think.

OrangeBananaFish · 31/01/2021 12:06

WFH has really helped with fitting it in.

I've been doing RED January so have finished work and gone straight out for a run (1-2 miles) most evenings. Weekends I've gone out for longer. Still to go out today, but giving the roads times to de-ice so will go out about 3ish for a few miles (hopefully 4-5, but am pondering on hill sprints if the hill isn't too icy). Sometimes I just do one mile, but I do try to go for longer when I can. Now its getting lighter on a night I think I'll be able to get 4 miles in on an evening rather than just the two. I live rurally so am stuck to country roads as there is no pavement, unless I drive to one of the nearby towns, but I can't justify it in lockdown when I have so much beautiful, quiet area right from my front door.

In normal times I have running club two nights a week, outdoor bootcamp twice a week, parkrun on Saturdays and either long run or race days on Sundays with Friday being a rest day (which meant a 2.5 mile walk). I must admit though that most weeks I do miss something out.

Plan for feb is to get back up to 8-10 mile distance, but I'm only going to run 4 times a week and walk 2-3 times a week. The walk I do is a 2.5 mile loop. I do have a kettlebell at home so I should maybe dust that off too, but TBH I really just CBA.
