I quit smoking 6 years ago and I'm so fucked off with lockdown I'm considering buying some cigarettes.

Don’t do it.
You’ve done so well to quit, that if you start smoking again (even if tell yourself you’ll only have a few) before you know it you’ll be back on the cigs fully. (I say this as an ex-smoker).
Plus they cost a bloody fortune now.
Break dry January instead.

FlibbertyGiblets · 29/01/2021 16:13

God yes me as well. I even put my coat on to go spark up in the garden before I remembered I don't smoke anymore and any way the corner shop was shut thank goodness.

The moment passed, as it does, and the urge to gobble down great mouthfuls of smoke dissipated quickly.

Hang on in there kitty, as the saying goes.

FallenSky · 29/01/2021 16:14

No!! Don't do it. No matter how tempting. Sack off the dry January and have a wine instead.

lubeybooby · 29/01/2021 16:14

an ex smoker here, quit 7 years ago - don't do it, you'll be poor and stinky AND still in lockdown. Hold strong!

Chambored · 29/01/2021 16:14

To clarify, an ex-smoker who knows I can’t ever ‘just have one’ as I’d go straight back to my full 29 a day habit.
And I’m saying break dry Jan instead as we’re practically in Feb.

Chambored · 29/01/2021 16:15

20 a day habit.
29 would be very specific!

NormandySR1 · 29/01/2021 16:16

Smoker here, dont do it! You know you'll regret it when you take your first drag and it tastes horrific. Don't be a slave to ciggies!

ikeairgin · 29/01/2021 16:18

I gave up during lockdown - I still get the odd twinge but it's taken me 30 + years to quit (I started very young, in my defense) Don't do it - although I recognise the urge

WellWhoKnew · 29/01/2021 16:19

13 months here - would still consider mugging a granny for just one. It amazes me how quickly I can forget how awful the smell and taste is after.

I still Inhale deeply lighting the wood burner though...

unmarkedbythat · 29/01/2021 16:19

Don't do it, just don't... you're six years free! I'm a current smoker trying to get my head ready for the next big quit attempt... Six years is fantastic. Can you remember the desperate burning need you felt when you first quit? Why would you want to put yourself through that again?

CantBeAssed · 29/01/2021 16:19

I did cave first lockdown....smoked full 20 deck just because i had them...was physically sick...couldnt look at a cig now..in fact, iv turned into one of those really annoying ex smokers...turn my nose in disgust at smell of cigarette smokeShock

fiveoldteddies · 29/01/2021 16:20

Noooo keep going without. See all the bad results of smoking at work

somewheresorted · 29/01/2021 16:21

No!!!!!! Don’t do it. Once you start up again there will be no stopping. Just remember the hell you went through quitting, do you really want to go there again?

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 29/01/2021 16:22

@Chambored

20 a day habit. 29 would be very specific!
I did think that was very precise! 🤣
NancyDrawed · 29/01/2021 16:23

Please don't do it! You'll be just as fucked off, but smoking while you are!

(I'm an ex smoker - had a 7 year break, went to a party where people were smoking outside, cadged a fag, took a few drags and thought 'this is revolting'. Bit later and drunker, cadged another, it wasn't so revolting and I was back to a 20 a day habit for another 10 or more years. It is so very easy to get hooked back in)

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 29/01/2021 16:24

Don't do it. Things will be just as shit after, but you'll also feel so disappointed in yourself.

Open the wine, it's Friday. January is all but over!

davidsSchitt · 29/01/2021 16:26

No. Drink wine instead

MerryDecembermas · 29/01/2021 16:26

Don't do it! You will feel so much more pissed off. Well done on your achievement. Don't let anything not even a pandemic take it away!!!

Take up a random hobby? Those jewel picture things? Crochet? Candle making? Cook 1 new meal a day? Kick boxing in the garden?

Happynewtier · 29/01/2021 16:31

Don't do it OP! I'm sure you'll feel worse once the regret kicks in. Open a bottle of wine, and be bloody proud of yourself that you've done 29 days of a really shitty year alcohol free. In the long run, wine is far cheaper, and far classier than fags 😁 plus you can be a light drinker with no health consequences... Every cigarette causes irreparable damage to your body and increases cancer risks. You cant be a light smoker and not increase your risks of serious health problems. So crack open that pinot.

soundsystem · 29/01/2021 16:32

Another vote for sacking off dry January instead!

But I know how you feel, I have been really tempted to take up smoking again. (Which seems a bit of a maladaptive response to the current situation!)

Chatterpie · 29/01/2021 17:31

Thanks guys. I ate 3 brownies instead.

I'm staring at a beautiful bottle of champagne we're supposed to be saving for after Dry January to celebrate completing it. I asked DH if we could consider January over and he said no Angry

So I'm going to have a grumpy treadmill stomp then maybe another brownie.
