What are you having for dinner tonight?

I’m looking for some dinner inspiration please! DH and I are trying to be healthy- we’re good during the week but always derail it with having ‘treats’ at the weekend like pizza, steak and chips etc etc.

What can I cook tonight that is healthy but feels like a ‘treat’?

Sorry no inspiration as won't get home until 9pm so going for fish and chips - the only take away I bother with!

Turnedouttoes · 29/01/2021 18:44

We’re trying out Simplycook this week and tonight is jerk chicken. I also bought stuff to do a fancy fruit salad for dessert but DP is pissing me off so I probably won’t bother and will secretly eat Lindor in bed by myself

CookEatRepeat · 29/01/2021 18:49

Not helpful but takeaway pizza from the local bakery.

OwlBasket · 29/01/2021 18:51

We ordered takeaway Poké bowl. Food of the gods

gingercat02 · 29/01/2021 18:53

Chinese takeaway and wine so not healthy but delicious

NewCatMummy · 29/01/2021 18:53

Curry- Friday is always curry! Usually made with a jar at home, takeaway if were feeling flush. But gets expensive when the teenagers also love a curry.

Xerochrysum · 29/01/2021 18:54

Timeforatincture, I totally forgot DH bought haggis yesterday and started cooking chicken instead. We will have haggis tomorrow!

Chunkymenrock · 29/01/2021 18:59

Hot smoked peppered mackerel, mashed potatoes and spinach.

Two FT workers from home here with a 5 year old and just turned 1 year old. The 8-10 on evening slot is the only meaningful time I have in my day and do I cook! YES! My biggest stress buster after back breaking days ..... we do an around the world type menu through the week and kids eat delicious spicy leftovers next evening for their Dinner!

Tonight (whilst sipping plum and vanilla gin with Mediterranean tonic) I am cooking a Lamb Mangalore Malabar whilst rice is cooking itself in stock in our life saver life cooker.

Yesterday it was Vietnamese pork with rice in beef and ginger stock.

Tomorrow it’s going to be Paneer Dopiaza and Pilau.

People often comment on how our 5 and 1 year old eat the spiciest of strangest of foods and this right here is the answer! Their Dinners are last nights leftovers from whatever exhausted mum cooked to relax after work and home schooling

We had herby chicken with peppercorn sauce, roasted parsnips, rice, carrots and broccoli.

Odd mixture, but strangely worked.

Smarshian · 29/01/2021 19:01

Chilli ginger and soy salmon with salad and rice

LindaEllen · 29/01/2021 19:02

We had chicken and black bean sauce stir fry :) I love a quick stir fry.

What are you having for dinner tonight?
Bloodybridget · 29/01/2021 19:04

DP and I are going to share a Sainsbury's Taste the Difference macaroni cheese for one, with Brussels sprouts. I'm still struggling with eating since having chemo on Monday so I hope I can manage my share. So looking forward to being able to eat properly again!

ZackaryQuack · 29/01/2021 19:04

Sorry op, I've just ordered nandos, definitely not a good influence for healthy food here. Had a horrible meeting this afternoon, so feel like a cheer up dinner is required.

Bloodybridget · 29/01/2021 19:05

I can see my post wasn't very inspiring OP - sorry!

RhinestoneCowgirl · 29/01/2021 19:06

Friday night is always curry night in our house. DH cooks, including homemade chapattis, yum!

SoMuchToBits · 29/01/2021 19:07

A prawn curry, with tenderstem broccoli and a naan bread for ds (I tend to eat low carb, so won't have one).

I've just had Covid, but fortunately didn't lose my sense of smell or taste!

Fruitinator · 29/01/2021 19:09

We had from Hairy Bikers Diet book. Turkey Keema, rice cooked with cumin seeds and salad. I had more salad.

We have enjoyed nearly all the Hairy Dieters recipes, apart from an odd fish pie that used couscous as a crumble topping.

I then had a large glass of white wine and some chocolate!

praecantator · 29/01/2021 19:13

Now't wrong with pizza if you make it yourself, health-food, really Grin
Nice thin crust, quality tomato sauce, some nice cheese and whatever else takes your fancy.
The ghastly take-away pizzas from Domino's and like are the culprits in making pizzas evil.

MrsJBaptiste · 29/01/2021 19:15

Takeaway!

Burger for DS1
Pizza for DS2
Chinese for us

ApolloandDaphne · 29/01/2021 19:17

We had lamb tagine and couscous. It was lovely.
