How to help DC cope with noisy classroom?

DC 8 has been complaining her classroom is too noisy to concentrate. Before anyone jumps on me, primary schools are open where we live, she is in her normal class and I cannot homeschool because I am not a qualified teacher. She is quite conscientious and was upset as she hadn’t been able to finish her work. It was sent home as homework, she had no problems understanding it.

They are allowed to ask for ear defenders but according to both DC they don’t work. DS is allowed to work in the corridor if he needs to (SN), but I don’t think DD is.

We have a parents evening next week so it’s something I want to raise, but quite frankly, if they’re anything like DS’s teachers it’ll get better for a day or two before it reverts to noise. His teachers don’t want a silent classroom as it goes against the ethos of their teaching.

How can I help DD learn to block out noise and concentrate? Is there some kind of meditation (which I know nothing about!) which could help with this? Other techniques? It’s really upsetting her.

Can you provide your own ear defenders? If they fit they should help. I doubt you will be able to change what is the norm for the class.

I don’t think I’ll be allowed (another mum asked last term and was told no because they provide them) but I will ask. I think the kids assume they will block all the noise out!
