I'm so hot in bed

DareIask · 28/01/2021 22:49

Grin

Under the duvet... too hot
On the top ... too cold
Just a throw... ok to start but wake up cold
Thinner duvet... as above.
Window shut.. too hot
Window open... too cold

A couple of times I've woken without the duvet on and the window open so cold I think
I'm about to freeze.

Along with being unable to nod off, stay asleep, and restless legs I have come to dread nighttime.

Words of wisdom or consolation please

I got a 1 tog duvet off Amazon which is good
Try that.

Also some mattress toppers are meant to be cooling.

If you have a foam mattress it might be worth switching because they are HOT

minipie · 28/01/2021 23:56

Take magnesium supplements (topical often works best eg creams or epsom salts)

minipie · 28/01/2021 23:57

Also: thin duvet with another layer you can pull on in the middle of the night

Bingowin · 28/01/2021 23:58

Wool bedding....

Wool mattress topper and wool mattress protector and wool duvet. Bloody expensive but great for regulating your temp

Are you bragging or complaining OP ? Grin..... But seriously l get restless leg syndrome, cramp in my feet with the slightest draft on them and also itchy shins, feels like a million fleas on them. All these things only happen when l get into bed and l have often hot up gone downstairs, in tears from being so tired and uncomfortable and hone asleep in the armchair. Body shop Hemp body lotion helps with the itchy skin and l rinse our bedding twice in the machine do no trace of laundry liquid etc on it as that seems start me off as well

Sorry keyboard thinks g is h for some reason

I'm too hot until 3am, so have 2 x 2 tog duvets I can add and remove. Have window slightly open. 3am onwards usually wake up cold and add a 6 tog duvet and maybe shut the window.

I think it's something to do with your liver processing that you get colder after your first 5 hours sleep...could be misremembering though. I'm also post-menopause. Pre-menopause i was always freezing and had 2 massive duvets all the time.

wowfudge · 29/01/2021 13:00

Do you wear anything in bed? Even if you think you are too hot, a wearing a t-shirt can stop the cold from waking you if you've chucked the bedding off yourself.

MinnieMountain · 29/01/2021 13:07

I’ve got a summer weight wool duvet. I add a wool blanket in the winter which is easy to kick off if I’m still too hot.

I miss fluffy duvets Sad

Orpheline · 29/01/2021 21:53

Wool duvet

QuiltingFlower · 29/01/2021 21:57

The answer is......wear socks! Wear nice fluffy ones to bed. Slip them off when you get too warm- pop them back on when you cool off.

Simples.

All seasons wool duvet

Solasum · 29/01/2021 22:22

I really want a cloud like duvet that does not make me too hot. Thinner ones I have tried are just not comfortable enough, so I have a cloud then sleep half out of it. Recommendations gratefully received

CoffeeBeansGalore · 29/01/2021 22:30

What about this?

Silentnight Comfort Control Temperature Regulating 10.5 Tog Duvet

Currently on sale at www.qvcuk.com

Fairydustrust · 29/01/2021 22:38

Don't eat for at least 2 hours before bed. It really makes a difference.

Benjispruce2 · 29/01/2021 22:42

This is me lately. Wake up sweating, kick duvet off, wake up freezing and repeat. I’m 49, is this what I think it is?

PointBreakOrBadBoys2 · 29/01/2021 22:44

I have a thin duvet, with the corner of the main duvet over my shoulder.

When I get restless legs I put a weighted blanket on them, although it gets kicked off when I get too hot. The glass beads inside are lovely and cool to start off with though.

FinallyHere · 29/01/2021 22:56

2.5 tog duvet John Lewis

A fan on my bedside table.

A Galileo thermometer I can see from the bed so I can see the actual temperature. It's reassuring when it's actually the room that is warm and not just me.

I think that alcohol and sweet stuff makes it worse but I'm not sure. It might just be guilt.

I'm afraid so.

It's bloody horrible.

If you think it may be hormone related, take sage leaf supplements. I used to suffer with awful hot flushes/night sweats, literally felt like a bucket of water had been thrown over me, sage leaf 1600mg did the trick, took a few months to get into my system tho

LongDivision · 29/01/2021 23:11

I hate to be a cold water swimming bore, but regular cold water immersions (or perhaps even cold showers?) might help. I had the same thing a few years ago and haven’t had it since I’ve started regularly swimming outdoors.

Benjispruce2 · 30/01/2021 15:17

Interesting. I’ll try sage rather than cold swims or showers though! Grin

FlyingByTheSeatof · 30/01/2021 15:27

I can't put a cover on my 4.5 tog feather duvet as it makes it too hot so I lie under my duvet cover and once I get too cold I then use the duvet.
I also have a fan for when it gets too warm

I have Egyptian cotton sheets and pillowcases which help.

Zooxanthellae · 30/01/2021 15:27

A weighted blanket instead of a duvet helps me with this situation. If nothing does help though keep in mind that it is just a phase and you will grow out of it Grin

Benjispruce2 · 30/01/2021 17:33

I like that @Zooxanthellae, positive thinking.Smile
