Every weekend we sit down as a family and attempt to watch a film together and every weekend we spend ages trying to find something to watch and I actually feel like I’m running out of things to watch. Please share your finds with me. If it helps this is what we’ve watched lately.

Every single marvel film about a million times
Indiana Jones (all of them)
Harry Potter (see above)
Wonder Woman 2 (dreadful)
Military wives
Hunt for the wilder people (brilliant)
Le Mans 66
Senna
Knives Out
To catch a thief
Ghostbusters (old and new)
Jurassic parks (old and new)
Soul (loved)

And many others. My DC are 14 and 12 btw. TIA for your suggestions

@Nowisthemonthofmaying

She might struggle with Ferris Bueller too then 😂 although the kissing is pretty tame as far as I remember...

Have you watched the new Jumanji films? They're quite good fun though silly

Yes seen the Jumanji films. Really liked them

Has anyone seen the Fast & Furious films? Are they just too grown up (I’m probably scraping the bottom of the barrel here 😂)

National Treasure films
Most things with The Rock
DH would say Transformers (I wouldn’t)
Star Wars! (Not prequels)
Disaster type movies - Twister, Armageddon, 2012 etc

actiongirl1978 · 28/01/2021 09:55

We watched Bohemian Rapsody with DS10 and Dd12 during lockdown one and it was a huge hit and DS adores queen music now.

actiongirl1978 · 28/01/2021 09:56

Also kids watched Police Academy and loved them. And airplane.

newlabelwriter · 28/01/2021 09:56

I think you need to step it up a notch for children of that age.

Look for 12A films. The Island is very good.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 28/01/2021 09:58

Hidden Figures
Men In Black
Catch Me If You Can
Brassed Off

Definitely Time Bandits
There’s one very unsuitable scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail unfortunately (Galahad getting tempted)
The Matrix is a 15 but I’d probably go for it
Did you say you’d seen Hunger Games?
Pacific Rim is fun and age appropriate

oigetoffmycheese · 28/01/2021 10:08

Hidden figures
Ground hog day
The Martian
Constant gardener (depending on age)
Bridge of spies
Official secrets (excellent)
A call to spy
Mrs Wilson (series on iPlayer)
Charlottes key

Seeline · 28/01/2021 10:12

You don't mention the Harry Potter films?

James Bond - the earlier ones aren't quite so violent

Seeline · 28/01/2021 10:12

saracorona · 28/01/2021 10:18

Into the West - make you laugh and cry
Milo and Otis - cute animals
Charlotte's Web - Cute spider?
Old Dungeon and Dragons - Animation is so old but the younger grand kids still get engrossed.

movingonup20 · 28/01/2021 10:18

Hidden Figures is good for 10+

Also on the theme of race the small axe films on iPlayer (were on Sunday nights) some violence etc but contextual and good homeschooling material),

Made in Dagenham is another one ideal for secondary school age. Just watch the Guernsey Potato peel pie society and it's suitable for teens again

For younger kids there's things like the Railway Children, Swallows and Amazon's etc from my childhood which are excellent.

movingonup20 · 28/01/2021 10:19

Oh and pitch perfect my kids loved as teens

movingonup20 · 28/01/2021 10:22

Finally why not try 1950's horror movies, they are ridiculously tame, more comedy tbh but my kids loved them younger than yours. Oh and disaster movies, musicals we love.
