Trying to stay calm - deep breathing - how long will that work?!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/01/2021 08:55

By my calculations, it's phone call day. I'm working on my mental list of questions.

We're not really doing any as I'm also working full time

Mine has been out of school 3 years ..while we wait for a suitable special school .
I spend Sunday planning the weeks work and we work 4/5 hours a day on maths English science history geography...it was either that or he stays 3 years behind
Would utterly love to sit him in front of a laptop and have someone teach him ...or even have someone send me the work in advance so I don’t have to spend Sunday planning it .
But he’s not on roll at a school so I can’t .

It’s unfulfilling for everyone. First lockdown was great but it’s very different this time.

Nodancingshoes · 28/01/2021 09:44

It's awful tbh...ds1 is yr 10 - can work alone but needs nagging ALL THE TIME which is demoralising for both of us. Ds2 is yr 6 and has additional needs. By the time hes rolled around on the floor, thrown his pencil numerous times and shouted at me, we might get one task done. Cant wait for this to be over

SquirtleSquad · 28/01/2021 09:48

I've completely hit a wall this week.
4yo twins so only reception but still being set a decent amount of work, I have one who's desperate to do the work and learn, the other is determined not to do any work at all and not to let his brother crack on either and then an 18month old who hates them doing anything he's not involved with and is making it impossible.

School have set a movie "reset" day for tomorrow for each year group with a small and optional related bit of writing alongside, they've had a lot of upset phone calls this week from parents feeling the same.

HmmSureJan · 28/01/2021 09:51

Thursday is a good day for us, only two subjects, lots of material though but at least it's not 4 lots like on other days.

StormyInTheNorth · 28/01/2021 10:15

PSHE day for us. I really don't fancy discussing our feelings today. Or any day, sometimes I wonder whether the 'trend' for it completely misses the point.

ShinyGreenElephant · 28/01/2021 10:16

@Pringlemonster that sounds really hard and like you're doing an amazing job. Are you a teacher?

I'm a primary teacher, currently SAHM, and last year I LOVED planning and teaching my daughter myself - I had a lovely, easy to entertain baby, the sun was shining, I knew Y6 inside and out and could finally teach exactly how I wanted to, to one child who's clever and interested and engaged. Loads of practical work, followed her interests and she made SO MUCH progress. It was bliss. Now shes in high school and stuck in front of a screen all day doing boring worksheets, completely losing the will to live, depressed, inactive and piling on weight. Most of the teachers seem to be struggling with teams so the lessons are mixed up, quiz answers are wrong, teachers not online for the lesson so 400 kids are all complaining at once and arguing on chat. It's depressing the life out of all of us, plus I'm heavily pregnant and the toddler is absolutely climbing the walls - currently shaking her wellies at my face while I swig my coffee as quick as I can and look at the rain were about to go and walk in. Shit shit shit and I hate everything.

Good news everybody, it's time for wine!

Hope your day went better than expected. I had a really good dog walk this evening so feel slightly rejuvenated.
