What weird things do you find comforting?

When I was little I used sit on the floor by my mum to tickle her feet. It made us both laugh so much and I loved making her laugh. I would take her slippers off and I remember the smell, it was warm and comforting. Strangely, after she died and DF moved out of the family home they were the only thing I found of hers, hidden under a chair, after he had thrown most of her belongings out. 15 years on I still have them.

I now sniff my own slippers. They smell of her - it's warm and comforting. I know it sounds weird, but it reminds me of those happy days and makes me feel connected to her. Do you have anything weird that you find comforting?

The sound of the trains. Especially at night.

If I'm feeling on edge, I find some horror films comforting. Seems an odd way to relieve anxiety but it does. Confused

I watch the same programs, read the same books. I don't think this is weird, though

I totally get this! Me too! I think it helps take your mind off your own worries for a moment or something.

I suppose it stops you feeling like you are in the house alone.

@borntohula I'm the same with true crime podcasts, I listen to them to get to sleep. My husband thinks I'm a freak.

I also like to read depressing books when I feel bad about myself.

Zombie and apocalyptic films. I find them calming.

If I ever feel sick I put a towel on my pillow, my mum always used to do this and being sick in the toilet or a bucket was unheard of, we always had the old 'sick towels' I know it sounds gross to the extreme but mum wouldn't hear of us moving from bed if we were unwell.

She died when she was 49, as an adult despite now vomiting in the toilet I still have a towel on my pillow for comfort and I'm sick a fair bit. 😳

The sound of wind in a chimney. Reminds me of being tucked up under a blanket on the sofa as a child, with a whole night of Saturday telly ahead of me. The Gladiators! Anne of Green Gables! Heaven.

How funny, I've just seen that someone started a thread in AIBU about what things you find soothing! It was obviously a night last night for needing comfort.
