I can feel a lump in my throat all the time and I don't know what to do

When I swallow it feels like there is something stuck there. If I try and have a feel with my fingers it just makes me retch. I have also noticed I have a lot of acid indigestion recently. But I have also put on an awful lot of weight recently so I don't know if it's just caused by weight gain... Don't want to go to doctor as I'm worried they will think I am a total hypochondriac! Should I be worried?? I gave up smoking 6 years ago.

This can happen when you have reflux I think.

M0rT · 27/01/2021 22:40

Go to the doctor, it could be reflux or a blockage but putting your fingers down your throat won't solve the mystery.

Pomegranatemolasses · 27/01/2021 22:42

Google GERD, it's acid reflux. it can cause that sensation. Definitely go to your GP. You need medication for that, long term acid reflux can cause damage.

Sounds like Globos - caused by reflux

MrsEricBana · 27/01/2021 22:43

I would ask the GP but it could be something called "globus sensation" which you can get with reflux. Hope all ok.

Iamnotaosureaboutthis123 · 27/01/2021 22:43

How long have you had this ?

Aircontrail · 27/01/2021 22:51

Last 3 weeks or so only.

I will look up globus, thank you. Feel a bit daft now as had convinced myself it was malignant Blush

Its GERD. I once had it after overdoing ibuprofen for a few weeks, which caused acid reflux. I was convinced something was stuck there. Had a camera put down my throat to rule out anything untoward and a course of Omaprazole worked wonders.

MrsEricBana · 28/01/2021 01:22

Definitely don't feel daft but this is a plausible explanation at least. Do ask the GP still as they will take a full history and, as others have said, may prescribe Omeprazole or do other tests.

Post nasal drip. Feels like a lump at the top of my throat. Seems to be triggered by mild allergies and cold weather for me. Nothing serious, just annoying.

Aircontrail · 28/01/2021 01:39

Thank you, I will speak to my GP... Seems like such a waste of precious NHS resources. Is a bit embarrassing if it's related to weight gain Blush the medication I am on has made me balloon in weight and lockdown hasn't helped either..! It is worse when I am lying down, it feels like a huge piece of food is stuck!

this needs to be checked out medically.
no one can say it is GERD from a discussion.
it may be. may not.
OP needs to go get it checked properly.
