Your ring is lovely, BTW!

FelicityBeedle · 30/01/2021 19:26

Oh that’s beautiful @GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER

RandomMess · 30/01/2021 19:26

I bit nothing it all went to my cousins 😢

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/01/2021 19:39

I have 2
GM engagement ring , line of small diamonds , Cathedral Setting I think it's called . I never saw her wear it ever . It fits on my middle finger but I think too old to risk re sizing

Other one is an emerald in a pave halo setting . Not my type of ring but the emerald is stunning . Could be re set ?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/01/2021 19:39

GM didn't give me the rings , my Mum did

InvisibleToEveryone · 30/01/2021 19:57

I have antique sapphire and diamond earrings I was given by a friend before she died.

Large oval sapphires surrounded by diamonds.

Lovely but I'm scared to wear them after I had them valued.

weetoot · 30/01/2021 20:05

My mum inherited all of her mother's extensive diamond and emerald jewellery. She had them all melted down and redesigned into some of the most horrendous things. Too bad for my cousins who were promised loans for their weddings.

something2say · 30/01/2021 20:25

The big stones are my grandmother's engagement ring. How big are they!!

Nanny had a huge jewellery box and we loved wearing her rings when we were children.

I've just heard that my father's sister, who has the jewellery, says I can have a load more!! Can't wait to see what she sends. I dont wear much jewellery but do love nice rings. And I can remember my grandmother wearing them.

I inherited loads from my mum. She knew I didn't like any of it so told me to sell it all when she died. I did exactly that and bought some expensive necklaces/earrings that I now wear every day and remind me of her! We had very different tastes!

TheCanyon · 30/01/2021 20:52

I got the two pinky rings from my maternal gm, the only fingers they fit!!

Diamond was engagement ring from mums dad and sapphire and diamond is the divorce ring my grand siblings bought her when she divorced mums dad Grin

My stepgrandad was my utter world so I'm not surprised I got the divorce ring.

For my 30th we were going to get them remade into something that will actually fit my fat fingers as sapphire is my birthstone but then I was unwell and 4 years later they're still just sitting in my jewellery box.

Gorgeous baubles! I think that pendant will be late Victorian/Edwardian?

I'm so thrilled the ring fits me. I will need to get it valued when shops are opened again I guess. I want to keep wearing it though!

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I'm sure you could get the emerald reset. You could take it to a modern jeweller and see what they suggest

This belonged to my grandmother and her mother before her. It’s platinum with a square sapphire and two tiny diamonds. I used to have it in my jewellery box because it is hard to insure but then my mother told me she thought I should wear and enjoy it and she was right.

I've never inherited anything but just wanted to say that ring is stunning OP! What a beautiful thing for your gran to leave you.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/01/2021 21:39

Oooh nay Trumplost haunted forever by my GM .
Both engraved with the initials and dates
The diamond ring is 1923 , the emerald is 1922 (I know engraving a piece of jewellery reduces its value but I think it's lovely and a link to my family history )

RandomMess · 30/01/2021 21:39

I am so sad I will never inherit any jewellery tbh.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/01/2021 21:40

I'd be haunted forever ( don't know where that bit of my post went to)

Disfordarkchocolate · 30/01/2021 21:42

I've inherited a few trinkets but no proper jewellery. I'm currently planning who gets what of my small collection.

VinylDetective · 30/01/2021 21:43

Beautiful ring, OP. Not in remotely the same league but I wear my mum’s wedding ring on my right hand all the time. It’s been on her hand and mine for over 70 years now.

ParkheadParadise · 30/01/2021 21:53

We bought dd1 a ring for her 21st.
When she died I kept it in my jewellery box. My mum died 2 years later I inherited her wedding ring.
I took both of them to a friend who is a jewellery designer.
He made me a beautiful bangle from their rings 1 gold 1 white gold 1 platinum. They all sit together I never take them off.

MrsDThomas · 30/01/2021 21:54

I have a bracelet that mum had. Gold and full if charms.

And ugly, seriously ugly. I will never wear it but cant sell it as long as dad is still with us as he bought all the charms.

One day i will sell it and buy a lovely ring that ill wear. But i know it would hurt dad so much if i sold it now. Its worth hundreds.

Trumplosttheelection · 30/01/2021 21:58

It is hard isn't it? Something you don't want to wear but can't sell. It's much easier to inherit either something beautiful and wearable or something ugly but you can sell and replace with something you like.
